Exclamation more Cymbal questions...

hi, im presenting a pretty common question...

what are the best sounding, most durable cymbals that wont cost me a loan on my house?

about 6 months ago my 18" Sabian B8 Pro thin crash cracked and since then i've had to play on it because of no replacement and it ended up cracked on the seam of the cymbal and its not a 15" Sabian B8 Pro Thin crash with a crack in it, but I DIDNT CRACK IT IN THE FIRST PLACE. although i cant prove it, my friend did. thats besides the point.....i bought a replacement about 3 months ago. A Sabian Pro 17" Med crash. guess what.....cracked again, and again not my fault.....needless to say, i dont allow my friend to play my set anymore. but i am asking you what a good cymbal is that will last a long time....maybe i already know the answer, just dont let my friend play my set, but does anyone know if Zild Z Customs are durable?

Why not just go with Sabian AA or AAX's?
(personally I'm a Paiste man, but to each his/her own.)

And, don't let your friends play your kit.

I personally use Zildjian A customs. they r awesome. look into that. i mean they last for a long time. i have 3 crashes, 1 splash, 1 ride, a set of high hats, and 1 china. they r awesome. look into them when u get a chance.

What happened to cause the replacement to crack? You know that you should glance across the edge of the cymbal at an angle, not bashing directly down on it. If you play like bam-bam, no cymbal will withstand that kind of beastness.

If you arent opposed to using hot-rods, your cymbals will last longer as will your hearing.
Food for thought.

You can always run them to a machine shop when they crack and have it "turned" about 1/8 inch past the crack and now its as good as new. Sort of.
Works, though.

the problem im having with cymbals isnt really so much the cymbals its my friend, hes a great drummer (better than me) but he hits SO DAMN HARD. he's been my best friend for years and i dont want to tell him he cant play my set but its costing me money here. im not gonna let him play it anymore, but im sending my cracked Pro 17" Crash back to sabian to get it replaced, they said they would for free so im not too worried about it, i stopped playing on it as soon as i realized it had a crack, and its small enough to not really matter too much. anyway, i've heard Zild cymbals were the most durable from a lot of my friends who play and i trust their judgement and i'm really into the sound of the Z Customs. are their cymbals that are less costly that sound the same and are almost as durable? i dont hit very hard at all and i hit at an angle (swipe as someone said) so im not really worried about cracking them. just gotta deal with my friend, he's cracked 2 of his crashes, im just telling him to use his own crashes when he plays my set, cause its weird. he hits the crashes extreamly hard and then the hats, ride, and drums he taps very lightly. i hate to tell a more experianced drummer to not do something, but i guess i have to. im rambleing now......

paiste signatures own everything.. but like you said.. you dont want to put a loan on your house! they arent that bad.. i just got a 21" dry heavy ride that is amazing! it was $250.. lets talk about my $200 20" a custom ride... i hate it.. lol.. i use it for a crash now.

Angry

Sounds like your friend should Wack his own cymbals. Iv only been playing a couple of years, but don't think I'v ever come close to cracking a cymbal. I guess it could depend on the intensity of your play though. I have a friend that also seems to wack the shit out of drums and cymbals, My thinking is that part of being a good drummer is playing at a volume that matches the rest of the band. Not just playing as loud as you can...I play Sabian HH and Evolution cymbals and thier expensive. I'd be a little pissed if anyone came over and played my kit like that. Id have to say something to em. I think precision and speed are more important skills anyway.
