maybe a silly question I dont know
In Sonar can one use a prerecorded midi track to provide midi output to drive multiple armed tracks of different softsynth voices for layering?
I been doing it the long way by copy track and change voices for each. I guess Im lazy and should be spanked properly for not aalready trying it. but I figured maybe one of you have tried and made it, or it wont work.. Ken

I don't see how, Ken. You would have to assign the track's output to multiple synths, and Sonar only allows you to choose one output.
The other way would be to try and use different voices from the same synth, but I believe this is done though Channel assginments, and again, each track can only be assigned to a single channel. I'd be interested to know if you figure out a way. I can't think of any. |

Thanks Dach' . It is jus as I thought. I was trying to layout a flowchart in my head, but it hit the wall everytime I came to the "single output" in Sonar.
I suppose an external module could respond to the single track output via an omni send, with the module sending the midi data back thru discreet channels to the the daw and drive multiple softsynths/tracks that way. I guess that module could be a synth module, or a midi controller with multi-voice/channel assignment capabilities. It is a long way around the block, but should work. It sort of suprises me that cakewalk hasn't capitlaized on this, with so many workstations out there that have that capacity. Having multi-channel midi output assignment capability would be a cool option for Sonar in the next release, if they haven`t thought to include it.. I haven`t used midi this much in yrs, other than for remote control of a drum machine from a synth I used for playing bass. My rookiness is apparent.

There might be a long way... copying tracks and deleting specific notes etc... but that would take a long time...
How about this... selected just a specific note in a MIDI track, coping it to a new track then assigning it to a different output.. a long work around however might work. Porter |

You want to do it the long way. You have more control over the EQ necessary to make sound sythns set in the mix.
By mushing everything together you are at the mercy of the EQ inherent in each sound source. |
