Question Problems installing sonar

Hi,

I have Win98SE, I try to install Sonar2 and I can't get passed the directX 8.1 setup. I Install directx 8.1 cause the installer doesn't detect it. I restart computer and restart the setup.exe. It says again that I don't have directX 8.1. The worst of it is that in windows update directX is now at version 9. I think it is installed on my computer and that is why the setup doesn't detect directX 8.1. Anyone has an idea how to fix that up?

Thanks,

Thierry Angers

Cool

This worked for me:

A good solution (at least for me) was to fool my windows 98 to think it runs DirectX 8.1, allthough it runs DX9.0. Here is how to:
------------------------------------------------------
open regedit by selecting START RUN and enter REGEDIT and press ENTER
in the directory structure on your left browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/MICROSOFT/DIRECTX

Change the value to 4.08.01.0810

Cakewalk provided the DirextXUtility program for this purpose.

The utility operates as a 'wrapper' and lies to the Sonar installer program when it queries for the DirectX version level.

It works like this:

1) Start the DirectX utility
2) The utility calls for mounting the install CD
3) The AUTORUN function of the CD is invoked as a child process of the utility
4) The AUTORUN function invokes the Sonar setup program.

When the Sonar installer requests a DirectX version check, the utility intercepts the request, and returns a dummy 8.x version level. The Sonar installer is then happy, and continues to install.

The DirectX utility expects to operate specifically with the Sonar install CD.
