Exclamation snare and high hat bleeding....

ok, so i am having mega problems with highhat bleeding into my damn snare mic. It doesn't make any sense. I am using my 57 on the snare and like the sound, but i can't seem to get rid of the high hat enough. This is how i am using it. I have it like .4 inch off drum at top close to rim. Aimed direct on. And i figured being sm 57 is cardiod i could get away with it but i guess not. I cant even eq the damn thing out well enough. And when i try to take it out enough then the snare sounds like shit. can anybody help me out??

is the 57 pointing away from the hi-hat? I usually try to position the snare mic between the hi-hat and snare pointing directly away from the hi-hat....I place the mic about 2-3 inches above the snare rim at about a 45degree angle. works pretty well for me (and I don't get much hihat bleed)....

also you may have to put your hihat a little further from the snare
so many drummers now adays put there hihats almost on top of
the snare.
And as Pratt said keep the mic angled away from the hihat.

Also, don't forget that some bleed is normal. The sounds of the drums travel all among each other.

Put the 57 under the hi hat so the capsule is facing as far away as possible.

The purpose of a cable is to get stuck under everything in its path.

Try a darker mic than the 57. Positioning is everything.
