Good uses for condenser mics???

What's the basic general difference between condenser mics and regular mics? What do condenser mics excel at? For instance, would it be better to record a mic'd guitar amp with a condenser mic???

Thanks.

Two big condensors and a short jumper cable can make some cool nunchucks in a pinch.

BTW....read the post that Track Rat gave you....or better yet, do what I did and copy it to your computer. On the last page you will see a link to it copied out in word format. It is much easier than doing it by hand like I did early on in the threads life.

It has been more informative than any book or single article that I have ever read about microphones. You will read and re-read it. Live it...love it....breath it.....

Then give thanks to Harvey

That would make great (quick) scene in a Jackie Chan movie:

He slips into a karoke bar to avoid the bad guys who are hot on his tail.

The small karoke crowd thinks he has volunteered to go next and pushes him up on the stage (containing two microphones).

As he's struggling with the song, the bad guys spot him through the window and rush in.

He fights them off, using the mics as nunchucks, all the while singing the phrases of the song between nunchuck blows to the heads of his assailants.

After he delivers the final blow, he swings both mics by their cords (ala Roger Daltry), finishes the final phrase of the song, and as the small karoke crowd cheers the camera zooms in on the battered mics--which are still working after the beating they just took.

The camera zooms in closer, and we see the labels: Shure SM58.

Ok, so I took a little poetic license, they're not condensers.

I think he did that already??? What was that movie he did with Jennifer Love-Hewitt?

Or was that the guy in Undercover Brother?

Anyhow, SOMEBODY did it already. I like the mic-as-nunchuk thing though. Dragonflies?

Did anyone catch "Kung Pow-Enter The Fist"? He uses gopher-chucks. Hilarious.

I don't know...

have you ever held an Octava mk319? That thing is freaking heavy. When I got it I joked that you could take out a burgler with that thing. Two of them converted to chucks could do some damage.
