help with drum software?

I usually don't mess with drum software since i usually record acoustic. Lately ive just been fooling around writing and don't want the hastle of micing up a kit.
Ive got a copy of fruity loops and have used it quite a bit but i find it distracting trying to visualize what the beat should look like.
Now to my question, my friend had a program a while back that you could use your typing keyboard to trigger the beats. He can't remember what it was called but i think something like that would be simple and beneficial. Does anyone have any idea what im talking about or anything like this?

You need to buy the beat slicer to do this properly. With the beat slicer, you can use different keys of the keyboard and get the whole drum part down with one pass.

Without the slicer, you can only use the keyboard for one drum sample at a time. But if you don't mind a pass for each drum part, it can be done. Just record in one long piano roll in song mode. make sure you are hitting the key for middle-C otherwise it will streach the sample. I'd tell you more if I could, but I'm away from the computer I use FL on, so I'm doing this from memory. Hope that helps!
