Thumbs up Finally!!!

Nice work fellas, I like the overall concept. That is hot beat too, props to HDHM. Nice work on the vocals Kevlar and Abyyss.

As far as the mix goes you did a pretty good job. The verses distort in some places, but not a huge problem. Maybe wanna use some compression to keep the vocal levels more constant though. The last hook is a good idea, but is kind of confusing to listen to. Maybe try panning the two hard.

Where is that hiss coming from? It starts right from the top. If it's from one of the vocal tracks, mute the track until the vocal comes in. Just get it out of the beginning so it's at least not as noticeable.

Abyyss, you got a unique voice man, I like it. I think you need to enunciate more though. And you might want to compress the track to keep the level from dipping/clipping. Definitely a memorable voice for sure. Relatively clean recording too. What mic are you using?

I'm hearin' ya'

It was the first track I rec'ed so I imagine I'll get better the more I do.

As far as compression, I don't have any method of compression (that I know of) so basically it doesn't have any on.

I'm using like this cheap mic that cost £20, and I made a pop filter with I sellotaped to it.

Memorable? Thanks, I guess that's what you get when you've got a low voice and you rip it fairly high. And my accent is yorkshire, but not broad yorkshire.

I bet I drove kev up the wall though, I kept changing it over and over, kept improving it - the very first version wasn't even ripped in that style.

I'm gonna try and sort those things out now, except the compression which I ain't got a clue about.

Kev, we finally did it man.

[edit]

That panning makes a hell of a difference.

I'm gonna update it - kev, just send me your last verse but make sure that it starts (even if it's silent) on a beat, then we won't have the same prob as before. Then I'ma get the new version up and an acapella for all you remix-heads.

Oh yeh, don't know where the hiss is coming from, the only vocal track playing at the start is the speaking intro.

Yeah, now that I listen to it again I see that the hiss might be hard to get rid of. If you could just clean up "This is story about a boy named Tommy" you'd probably be okay. I would filter it or just take out all the low frequencies. Just for the one part though. Once the beat kicks in you won't really notice it.

And Abyyss aren't you using Cubase? I'm sure there is some sort of compressor included. Look for an effect called either compressor or dynamics. If you find one let me know what controls it has and I'll show you how to use it.

I'll have a look, but I'm off to the cinema now so I ain't got the time.

Remember I ain't got Cubase though, I've got Cubasis so it might not have it.

Good work fellaz. I'm feel'n the intro and like this beat by hi. The song you guys wrote fits it well. As far as compression I don't think its a big deal that you need it. Abyss u should try to do something with out stacking the verse til you get your delivery down. Also your accent is very thick. You may wanna ease off on the harder delivery cause I couldn't understand anything you said until you say the hook. Maybe you should do your verses like you do the hook nice and slow. I like the style of delivery you chose but you mabye getting ahead of your self I think. U gotta crawl before you walk ya feel meh. The song is still pretty good. I can tell this was well thought out. Good work keep it up.

Aight, I couldn't sort out the hiss but it's only for like a second so it don't really matter.

I didn't have a compressor on cubasis but I did have one on another program - didn't use it though, besides not knowing how, I think it should just be left done so we can get the criticism.

I did however do some heavy panning - on the last hook and on the other parts where it's a split between the two like it's in each ear.

And I put up the acapella for all you remix-heads out there.

I dl'd the acapella and it looks like the problem is with your soundcard, not your mic. I could be wrong, but it appears to be the same problem I used to have with a piece of shit soundcard.

If you have a wav editor, take a look at the waveform and you'll see what I'm talking about. If you don't have a wav editor go to www.hitsquad.com/smm and download GoldWave or Audacity (both freeware).

Secondly, the track is at 16 bit/16khz (should be 16 bit/44.1 khz). This makes the track distort in a lot of places and it can't be cleaned up. I don't know if this is from when you recorded it, when you mixed it down or due to the wrong MP3 conversion, but either way you want to fix that.

I'd like to do a remix or at least show you what I was talking about in regard to fixing the track. I can't do anything with the track the way it is though.

If you don't want to go through the trouble cool, just trying to help make this the best that it can be. Keep in mind I'm a borderline perfectionist.

Red face i feel u stray

well i figured it was either mic or soundcard now i guess i'm gonna have to get one of those too..i knew i was going to but when your funds is lackin and you want to get something crackin sometimes i guess we try to short cut things.(or maybe just me) I'm not sure on the format it was in? I think alot of our trouble's prob come from sending different mp3 bitrates back and forth...like when i did the final track on my page i rendered it at 128kbs but some of the accapella's we extranged back and forth i have a good idea we're not all the same ...i'm not sure how much this matters but i am trying to get the best possible recording i can with what i have and your input and help is much appreciated...peace

IMHO, you should really do something about the sample rate. It would make a world of difference. MP3 isn't the best, but stay with 128 and up and you should be okay.

As far as budgets are concerned, I hear you. Check this thread out:

When I did the final version now I did at the highest I could (160) which soundclick converts it to 128 because you're not a VIP, i think u can dl a higher version tho.

As for the Hz I ain't got a clue cos I don't think I can change it in cubasis.

We definately had different Hz cos originally kev lined it up and some of my tracks were going real slow and when he made those tracks go at normal speed it sped his up.

yo, i'm listening, the beats aiight, the first cat had some nice line, ok flow and delivery, the second dude had some nice lines too, but seem to be off beat at time,to me anyway, and he sometimes sounded like he was jumbling his words together. i like the concept. and i really like how you had both the good side chorus and the bad side chorus overlapped to make it seem like tommy's really fighting with his decision.

overall it was a decent track. the beat wasn't really my cup of tea, but was cool for the concept of the track. anyway keep elevating.

return the favor:

I been waiting for this. Hot lyrics & concept.

Kev- U recorded this with the old mic? Vox sound a lil boxy. especially the into. sounds like u we're cupping the mic

Abyss -You been worrying and worrying and worrying about your accent. Know it or not its an asset( pimp it). But i do have to say you gotta tighten up on your doubling, cuz the 2 takes weren't close enuff to keep them from stumbling over each other. had to really listen to follow you and it had nothing to do with your accent. my girlfriend is Trinidadian (i think thats how you spell it) and since we've been together i've learn to follow accent pretty easily.

Yeh, I know the doubling was off.

It's something I still haven't quite perfected yet.

I think part of the worrying is due to being very self-critical.

But I've always been like that.

I'm glad you liked the track.

You should of all heard the team 2 collab by now, but flossy ain't got back at me.
