Are these old microphones any good?

I just inherited a couple of microphones from someone who's dad used to do some recording. He wasn't sure how they were used.

They are Calrad DM-21's.

They have smal 4 prong connectors on them, and they also have a power switch. I also got a couple cables, with e 4 prong on one end, and the connector stripped off the other end, so they are un-usable unless I can get an XLR on the other end of them.

I'll be able to post a picture tomorrow, for you to see. (I forgot to bring it to work today, grrr.)

I'm having a hard time finding connectors for them, and the only one that I've found was around $50 for a 25' cable to go from the 4 prong to XLR. I'd like to know if anybody knowledgable about old mics could tell me if it's woth doing that. There's a good chance that the cables would be worth more than the worthless mics, since I have no way to know if they even work. (I've been told that they should, but he just didn't know for sure.)

Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a ton,

Speedy

Thanks...

I saw that site before, and I'm pretty sure that they'd have what I need.

What I'm wondering is if it would be worth it? Since I don't even know if the mics work or not. I don't want to spend $100 on cables if the mics are cheap, and worthless to begin with. I could put that money into another new mic or something else that I might need.

I'll have some pictures up tomorrow, though, I promise.

why don't you buy 1 cable and test all the mics with it and decide from there if its worth it to you to buy more. then if you decided not to you would only be out $25 bucks.

Well...

All of the cables that I've found cost $50 or more. (see above)

I'm not all that concerned as to wether or not they WORK right now, as I am with if the mics are a decent mic, or if they are, let's say, Radio Shack quality of yesteryear.

If somoene knows if the mics were just cheap-o mics, then I won't even bother. If Harvey came in here, for instance, and said that the mics were amazing quality mics, then it would be worth it for me to spend the $50, wether they work or not, 'cause I could always get them refurbed. But, if they were shit back then, I could spend $50 and get a Radio Shack mic right now, and I'd know that I had a mic that worked.

(I'm not about to even consider going to Radio Shack, btw, it's just an example.)

You can buy the whole mic, with cable, FOR $9.99

Calrad mikes were made in Japan before that was considered a good thing.

Well, I guess that settles that!

Thanks, Michael.

If I see some sort of amazing deal on cables for them, or if I fall into some money, I'll get them just to have 'em. But, It looks like they'll either just sit, or be given back to who I got them from.

Thanks again.
