Krk V6 ?

I am in the market for near field self powered monitors for my home (spare bedroom) mixing studio. I have about $700 budgeted for monitors and am really leaning towards the KRK V6s.

Tell me why I should or should not get these and if not which ones and why!?!?! I need your expert advise. Please keep in mind my budget amount.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I personally love my V6's, but I can't tell you what you may or may not like. Try them out, and see what you think. I also own the M-Audio BX5's...nice little speakers too, but don't have nearly the bottom end of the V6's...but if you add the M-Audio sub to them, you'd still be within your budget.

Good question acoustaman , I was thinking about the V6's also. Now if the BX5's can hang in there with the V6's, how do the BX8's do in comparison because they're running about the same price range as the V6's??

I've demo'd the V6's and BX5's and like what they offer, but haven't heard the BX8's.

I have not heard the BX8's either, but generally I like the sound of smaller speakers with the addition of a sub. I have found, in a lot of cases, 2-way speakers with 8 inch (or larger) woofer tend to have strange anomolies in the midrange (especially near crossover point). A smaller driver (like a 5 or 6 inch) is going to produce the upper midrange more accurately, and if you add a sub (which relieves the satellite speakers from producing lower frequencies it's not very good at, it defines the midrange even more).

There is a lot of technical data that will support this theory, and if you see "BareFoot" around, he can go into the tecnincal reasons for this.

Now, as far as the BX5's being able to hang with the V6's...I like them both, but they are different sounding. I can't say which are better, they are just different. Again, see which you like best. Having both works well for me. The BX5's do offer something the V6's don't, and that's the ability to adjust the response for different rooms/placements.

Ok, I just went and heard the V6s and the Bx5s. The Bx% are about $300 cheaper and don't have just as much behind them than the V6s but I think if I get them and then upgrade to a sub for them the Bx5 will work well enough for me in my small apt room. Thanks for the advice.
