alto compressor

okay a new company has emerged up here in canada . the company name is alto and they have a few compressors and one is called a alpha comp. this offers preset comp settings and very few knobs to work with.
So are preset comps worth money or should a none engineer type bother with compression at all.

i know there are many debates about compressrs the rnc getting the best reviews but what use would preset comp unit be to the singer songwriter???
