Got the call - they are using my song in a movie

The music supervisor called yesterday and informed me they will license my song for use in a movie. The flick will premiere at the the festivals (Toronto, Edinburgh).

Very exciting!

Check it out here if your down: http://www.aaronpenton.com/mp3/bitter.mp3

Cheerz!

Don't know the title yet - don't know the production company. He's faxing over the contracts today or tomorrow so I should know more then.

That's great!

I had the opportunity to score an indy film and it was a blast - even had another bit piece used in a Altman film.
(however small they're becoming, royalties are sweet!)

Great sound, too. It sounds like the setting would be tropical/urban.

Keep us posted (title, venues...if possible)

All the best!

Thanks gascap. What did you use to score the flick?

Which Altman film? I think I want to do the film/TV/commercial thing more than anything else. Especially with the way the recording industry is going now.

Cheerz!

Hi espskully,

The Altman film was "Cookie's Fortune" - you can barely hear me in the background about 90 minutes in...still cha-ching! (and kind of a thrill to see your name at the end.)

I used a combo of cakewalk (no sonar then) and acid....used as many real instruments and players as possible. It was a very rewarding experience. A few of the pieces even made it to background music to a lengthy story on All Things Considered on NPR. THAT was neat too! You never know where musical homes can be found is a lesson I learned through it all.

You can preview if you like http://www.cdbaby.com/athey

also, if you care, my demo reel can be heard here http://www.gascap.net

I also did an intro piece for a PBS show in San Francisco/LA. That was pretty fun too (that snip is not on my site yet...ha!) I think a big key in marketing to TV is to tell them/show them your stuff in exact increments of 15 seconds. That's their whole world, I think.

You also might try a company in Nashville called 615 Music. they assemble composer-types and music for music cd libraries they produce. Nothing materialized with them for me personally, but they were very receptive and cool...maybe someday some of my stuff will find a home there. I'm sure they'd be happy to hear what you're doing: http://www.615musiclibrary.com

Post some of your music when you can as well as accounts of your (hopefully pending) success.

Best of luck!

Hey! & Thanks for the nice words and taking a peek. I'd love to hear what you're doing. Post when you can.

I'm very intrigued and encouraged by your website too - esp. the collaboration nation. I need to take some time and read through it all. It definitely sounds worthy. (I like your album covers too)

Cheers!

Beautiful music. I love it. Listened to a bunch of samples at CDBaby.

This won't be your last soundtrack.

Thanks, Mountain. I sure hope to do more...I need to get off my butt and knock on some doors...a daunting task to be sure!

Your music/website looks interesting and I'm looking forward to checking out the sounds tomorrow at work. Dial-up at home is not kind to such tasks.

Hopefully we'll get to see ESP's film too.

Have a great day!

Hey Mountain,

Very cool / trippy stuff you got going. I can hear some definite effected violin stuff - although it surely is strong as is.

Original? yes!

Good work!

Thanks!
I'm almost finished with a new LP. A composer named Derek Devore put orchestration on a song I'm psyched about.
I'd love to have you on the LP if you have time - if one of the last 2 or three songs calls for some beautiful strings.
If not this, the next record?

I just listened to your stuff on CDBaby. Wow. It's quite cool.

On a side note, do you happen to play other stringed instruments (cello, etc.). I have an acoustic song with drums and vocals that could use some of that stringed lovin!
