i have a four-track i have no idea how to use. can you help me?

it's an audio-technica, AT-RMX64.

i was just playing with it for an hour and i couldn't work it, but then again i'm not good at this kind of stuff at all.

do you know where i can find information on the internet on how to use it, or any kind of advice about 4 track tape recorders you can give me? i don't even know where to begin.

When you press the transport controls (PLAY, FFWD, REW, etc) do they work properly?

ok, well i'll be thorough.

well first there's a window with numbers and a needle, and a button that says "tape/sub"

(i don't know what any of this means)

then it says "channel one overload" with a little red light.

then a knob that says "trim" with numbers around it.

then a switch with -20dB, 0dB, and "tape" on it, over -20dB and 0dB it says "line/mic".

and then there are two knobs that say "send 1" and "send 2" on the top, and "gain" on the bottom.

then there are the "EQ high" and "EQ low" knobs, with buttons that are "peak/dip or shelving".

then it says "sub assign" and there are 4 buttons numbered 1,2,3,4.

and then there's a knob that says "Pan" and on one side it goes to 1, and the other 2.

and then a button that says "solo".

and then the volume thing at the bottom. or whatever it is.

Sounds wonderfully complex.

Does it have anything like this?

So. 1/4" Phone Jacks.

Right.

Can you see switches marked something like Trk 1/L. Buss, Trk 2/R. Buss, Trk 3 and Trk 4?

In that case press the Sub Assign 1 switch in the Channel your guitar is plugged into

Turn the Pan Control all the way to the left

Push the Volume fader up to about a 1/4 of the way from the top

There should be a Master Volume Fader (or knob). Do the same with that.

The switch that says -20/0 dB and Tape, push that to the -20/0 dB side

Anything?

So it's one of these.

Well, you basically press record and go from there. Flip switches and tweak buttons until you get a sound. Figure out why, and how and go!

Take a high-resultion photograph of the front-panel, and we can tell you which switch goes where.

No, it's a Four Track. It just has six mixer channels.

Sansui did a Six Track.
