Question MOTIF drum pattern triggered from SONAR

Folks,
I find better support here than the Motif-forum. So here I am again.

The built in MOTIF drum patterns are awesome. Any idea if I can trigger these off my SONAR sequencer? Is it possible at all? I have checked the manual with no luck.

Thanks in advance!

Aren't they just triggered by a 'Note On'? If so then just have the Motif clock synced to Sonar and send it a note.

With the Karma and other apreggiator type synths you can trigger then externally but often you can't have the synth patterns trigger other synths.

Thanks Guys!

Here is a question:
Lets say I like a particular drum pattern on the MOTIF. Is there away I can downlaod that pattern in .midi format from MOTIF, so that I can open it in SONAR and still play it in MIDI format?

Thanks!

Arm a midi track to record and try it.

That's right I dunno, I don't have MOTIF, but I have Korg N364, which can play petterns. Hook the MIDI out of the keyboard to PC's MIDI in, arm some MIDI track in SONAR, record while you play the keyboards pattern. The MIDI data will be recorded by SONAR... Have a try...

Cool

OK guys, I will give it a try tomorrow. I hear that the MOTIF rack supports this function but not MOTIF6,7.,8.
Thanks for the help! Will keep you posted .

You could save the Motif pattern as a MIDI file and just open it up in SONAR. Provided you have a SmartMedia card reader.

OK guys it works now!

I set:

1. MOTIF in 'pattern' mode
2. selected "patch" and chose a drum preset.
3. hit the "play" button on the MOTIF. Now MOTIF plays pattern.
4. Armed the SONAR MIDI track (Note: SONAR MIDI ch=10, IN ch=1, OUT ch=MOTIF1)

Midi data was beautifully sent to SONAR. Now I can replay back from SONAR.

To synchronize timing I can open the MOTIF .template file from SONAR and control SONAR start time by hitting the 'play' button on the MOTIF. For this to work both the template file and my program have to be open at the same time.

I like the SONAR built in user patterns because they sound more realistic than what I can program. It also teaches me how to program drum patterns better.

I can also uses Jiff's advise to use smart media card.
One problem I have, the metronome from the MOTIF also gets recorded. Does anyone know how to turn it off?
Thanks for the help.

You have to turn the metronome off in Utility. I am at work right now so I can't tell you exactly how without seeing my Mo. It shouldn't be too difficult, though, and I am certain you could find that info in the manual.

If you are only talking about a MIDI file, thoug, coulldn't you just as easily go in and erase all the metronome notes?

I just noticed that the metronome did not get recorded. However I am still unable to turn the bloody thing down in MOTIF.

Thanks!
