stupid question

ok i have creating music for about a year on various instuments and pc,so some folks i deal with that dont know to much keep asking me this question.can i take the vocals out of a song or take just the beat out of a song and record it to cd from a cd?.i tell them as far as i know it cant be done.am i telling them the wrong answer?

no your are tellin them the right answer...but i heard you could its just talkes a lot os phasing in and out and it takes to long...i will look for that link where i seen that topic at..
