practice pains

I picked up a Fender Frontman 15G for practice. I am playing a standard strat through it and the hi end is way to hot. I have tried to dick around wit the 3 band eq but it seems to do nothing.

Anyone else have this amp?
Any tone suggestions?
Any better way to spend 80 on a practice amp suggestions?

One more thing... when i turn it above 2 the sound is ungodly.

Hey man, no problem, just hit the edit button on the extra copies and you can delete them.

As far as small recording amps go, I have the Tech 21 trademark 10. It has a great sound at 10 watts and an awesome direct out to boot. Only drawback is the $300 pricetag. You could look for a used one but I doubt anyone would sell one once having played it.

Here's the way I adjust my amp.

First, turn everything on the EQ all the way down. With everything set like this it will probably sound sort of muffled. When it sounds like that you want to rise the highs, but don't go too far too fast. just as it starts to sound brittle, stop and start bringing up the lows. You're looking for a nice balance between the two. When you've got that start playing with the mids. Again, don't move it too much. Try it at every setting and see what sounds best to you.

It's not really a good/bad thing. It all comes down to what you like.

you also need to fiddle with your guitar knobs/switches. Check out how the different pickups sound on it, take the tone down on the guitar, etc. Try it with the guitar volume lower and the amp level higher ...or the other way around. I use the Fender Frontman 25R, and after a long time fighting with it I have finally found its "tone"

I swear by my Roland cube 15 practice amp, it plain kicks ass and under $100
