MD8 Error 08 problem

I read the few thread on these forums about the Error 08 problem with MD8s. I managed to slide off the plastic cover but the lid won't fully open, nor will it close.

Is there anything I can do to fix this myself as I really can't afford to send the machine off to be repaired?

I've searched Google but I've not seen a DIY solution for even getting the disc out of the machine.

Try thin cardboard to get it out but be very carefull.

Try the cartboard opposite from the lens.
