I'm really new to the whole acoustics, absorbtion, diffusion, etc. game. I searched all over but couldn't find an answer to my question. I know mattress pads are useless. But what about old mattresses themselves? Are they useless? Or can you use them to help the sound out in a room? Sorry, it this is really dumb, but I'm very curious. It seems like it should work, but since I don't really see it mentioned, I kind of suspect it won't. Can any "smart" people help out this newbie? Thanks.

I suppose it really depends on the type of mattress. Foam used in mattresses is not the same foam used by auralex but it will have some absorption properties, so yes it will work but not as well as the proper stuff

I'm not horribly concerned with ugly or flammable. It's not a permanent solution. But I have two extra mattresses now, and not very much money. So I was curious as to how they could help the sound in a room if at all.

dude stand those mothers up i a corner and use it as a makeshift little somewat iso/vocal booth ... matresses are good for covering up noises I know because i use to take bong rips in the middle of the night under my bed and it covered up the bubbling PERFECTLY
