Not a valid Cakewalk format?

Hmmmm. I was working on a project last night and went to save it. When I hit save, it hung there for a couple minutes and I received and error which stated something to the effect of "Error: Not enough available memory".

Then I got an audio dropout and Sonar went "poof" (as they say in Cubase land).

I had saved this project (a .CWP) previously so there was a file of it on my computer. However now when I try to open it I get a message stating "Unable to open, not a vaild cakewalk format".

I have an idea of why this happened. I had a track in which I was using the CM Sampler DS-404, which I have had problems with before using it in Acid Pro concerning memory allocation. It seems to eat up all your memory if you edit a DS404 patch and save it.

What I am wondering now is if this project is gone forever or if there might be a way to recover it. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Question

...hhhmmm, I never had this before. I'm not sure what happened, since I don't use DS 404. But can you open it in other PC ? Copy the file to CD, and open it in other PC running SONAR, save it, and put it back...

Sorry, but I had no clue about it

You can also try opening in Safe Mode.

To open in Safe Mode hold down the Shift key while opening the file. Sonar will then prompt you before it installs each plugin. You might be able to bypass the problem this way.

Worth a try.

Ooooh. That may be the solution I'm looking for. I'm 99% sure it's due to that plug-in, and if I could bypass it that might do it.

I'll check it out when I am at home tonight.

Many thanks.

I have gotten this quite a few times and it is annoying. When it happens I have been able to open it in another PC with Sonar loaded. Make a tiny change and save it. Bring it back to your original system and it should be OK. If you don't have a backup system, email it to Cakewalk support (just the cwp file) or someone here.

I think you should get the update to the DS404 (from www.computermusic.co.uk) which will adress this problem. I know that won't help now, but you might avoid the problem in the future...

You know, Moskus, I got that problem without using any soft synths or midi at all, so that link probably would not have done much, but I know my way works....
