Question Audio recording problem.

All,

I'm having a problem recording audio tracks. I put in my midi drum track, but when I try to record my audio track, I can hear the guitar through my computer speakers, but nothing records. What do I need to do to record audio tracks? I'm still VERY new to CakeWalk, so go easy on me. ;-)

First off, what software are you using?

Do you have the right recording source selected in the Windows Mixer (or your sound card's mixer) and also the right source selected in your recording software? Did you arm the track?

How is the guitar being fed to the computer?

Mjr,

Are you sure the track is armed?Do you have a level registering on the meter? Check your manual to make sure you are doing it right.

Jon.

What's your soundcard?

I couldn't tell you. Apparently, it's a "mono" card, though. I don't know if that matters or not.

Okay... try this:

Go to Options -> Audio -> Advanced and check the "Always use MME-drivers even...."-checkbox and restart HS. You might want to reprofile your card under Options -> Audio -> "The Wave-profiler"-button.

I have no idea. What do I need to look for?

I assume you are running from your 4 track to the "Line In" port on your sound card. If so, double click on the speaker icon in your system tray (all the way to the right on the bar that contains your Windows start button). This is the Windows mixer.

When the mixer opens up, select Options > Properties > Recording, and put checkmarks next to Line In at the bottom of the dialogue (note - this might also be noted as Stereo Mix, or something similar). Click OK and the recording control window will show up. Put a checkmark next to Select for Line In (or stereo mix, etc.)

Now open up Home Studio. Find an empty Audio Track, and in the "In" selection box, click the down arrow and select your Sound Card. You should then get a choice of Left, Right, or Stereo. Assuming you are running a mono signal into the sound card, choose Left.

Then arm the track, hit record, and start jamming.

BTW, once you arm the track you should get a signal on the input meter when you play the guitar. If you aren't getting an input signal, something is still wrong.
