what should i start out with?

i want to get into recording my drums and guitar (electric and acoustic) on my computer. i definately got the computer for it (amd 2100+ overclocked to 3000+ with 512mb of corsair 3200 ram overclocked 5-2-2-2 and 80mb HD) but i still need to get a soundcard... i still need to get mics and everything but i dunno what to get first. i want to be able to record soon and build up i guess. i want terrific sound quality.. right now i have $800 to spend and probably $1000 by the end of the year... should i just get the q10 then i can start immediately? or should i get a delat 1010/pres/mixer and such.. im not so sure about the sound quality of the q10.. i dunno i just need some help. i hope to play with my entire band at the same time to record so i need plenty on i/o... please help me out on where to start..

A 1010 would be right up your alley. And I nice mixer with quality pre's would be nice as well. But 1000 g's might be a little short if your looking for high quality.
