Does MIDI connection cable transmit sound

If I hook up one component with MIDI to another, does this connection transmit audio from one to another or is it just a timing/sync control thing? Sorry if this is a dumb question...

Nope... it doesn't

It's not limmited by timing/sync only

Actually, MIDI is language protocol allowing two MIDI equpied instruments to communicate each other using MIDI protocol. It doesn't transmit "sound/audio" but digital data messages. eg. Master devices can "say" "Play middle C, with about 60% strength, then play E4, about 80% strength" to slave device. The slave device "listens" to this dialogue, and plays the notes in turn, as long as it's designed to understand the message specified. You can dig more the idea of MIDI here...

Hope it helps
