Newbie Problem

Whenever I open Cakewalk Home Studio XL. This message comes out...

****************************************************
AUDIO DRIVER ERROR

The following drivers either do not support the current audio format, or are in use by another application.

Please choose whether you want to disable them or use them anyway.

List: 3 Intel(r) Integrated Audio of different shapes and sizes
****************************************************

After I get in, I get this...

****************************************************
You have not selected any MIDI outputs. This means you won't be able to hear anything you play.
****************************************************

The only one I have to choose is Microsoft MIDI Mapper and it won't allow me to select it... What's going on? I'm a newbie so please go easy on me. Thanks!

Do you have another sound card installed besides the one integrated into your mother board?

It sounds like you might have Sonar set up for 24 bit, while the integrated card only supports 16 bit. Or possibly you have WDM drivers installed for one card, and only MME drivers for the other.

Or chances are that your soundcard is very bad, and needs to be replaced.

An investment in good recording software gives an investment in a good soundcard...

This is very easy to solve with the manual... just look up MME in the back, and read up.

A little hint, just to be nice, is to look under Options -> Audio -> Advanced

If you don't have any MIDI Out port / device installed (eg.you use DXi instead) just go Options --> MIDI devices, and un-check the "Warn about No MIDI devices".

I've solved the problem by correcting the MME thingy... Thanks a lot moskus!

Malaysia is a multi racial country with many ethnic backgrounds and many races. I stay in Kuala Lumpur, which is the capital city situated in west Malaysia. I'm from a chinese ethnic background. But the national language here is Malay which everyone knows how to speak (almost everyone). Lovely country. Why James?

I had the same problem with my Delta44 and Sonar 2 so its not just because you have a crap sound card. I think it may be because Cakewalk software doesn't like sharing WDM drivers with other software. So essentially you will have to close any other software that may be using the soundcard. Since upgrading to Sonar2.2 I no longer have this problem. That may be because I am now using ASIO drivers. Funny thing is I never had this problem with my old SBLive card.

Andrew,

I use to get the Audio Driver Error when I have another program open that may be using the sound driver.

I've tried to set "Share Drivers with other programs" in the Options-->Audio --> Advanced

but that never worked for me. Perhaps others have had better luck.

Anyway, it usually comes up fine if no other audio programs are open.

James,

It's Bukit Jalil... Its our national stadium... Well I don't know but there's nothing like home to me...

KevinTran & payload,

I didn't set share drivers, instead I switched to MME interface... I don't even really know the difference. I know I'm lazy to read and all... Can someone explain it to me in short?

When I first started work at my present place of employment, the draftsman in charge was Cheong Sui Chang. He came from Ipoh. He tells me THE best Char Kway Teow in the known universe comes from Ipoh, and I just love Kway Teow!

He was a lovely bloke too, ultra-polite and very modest. I miss him.

MME-drivers is the old Windows-standard (began with Win3.11, I think), and is really outdated but still use-able.

WDM is the new standard, and offers low latency and better stability.

Basically....

actually, IMHO, THE best Char Kway Teow is in PENANG! (serious!)
nevertheless, Ipoh is famous for their KwayTeow Soup.

For the less "fortunate", here's how a Char Kway Teow looks like:
