Mixers?

I need to know a few questions about mixers, I'm lookin for a mixer to buy, but i need to know ALOT about them before i buy.

? Does it matter weather i use a Digital Mixer Or Analog Mixer with my computer? Which will get better sound? Will both hook up to the computer?

? Why r there so many Channels on a mixer and then not so many? What r they For?

? a Mackie SR24.4 VLZ Pro seems pretty good. ? Will that hook up to a Echo Layla 24?

? Can i still hook up Mic Preamps, Compressors, Effects Processors, and ect... up to a Digital Mixer?

? Is a MultiTrack Recorder the same as a mixer? If it is can u hook that to the computer? If that can u hook up Mic Preamps, Effects Processors, Compressors, Etc... To it?

If u have any info. Please help?

It's hard not to have violent thoughts with someone like that. All newbies should be entitled to one stupid question, this guy is pushing his luck!

Mixers have alot of channels because if the one you are using breaks, there are 15-23 more. These are for backup.

Digital mixers are always numbered (channels) 0, 1, 0, 1, 0, 1 etc.
Analog mixers are always numbered (channels) 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, etc.

You can hook up compressors by using the Comp IN and Out
Same for the other stuff. Read the manual before considering if the right mixer is in your pricerange.

Hope this helps.

Digital Mixers are only for 'digital' sound, like keyboards. You'll need analog mixers to do anything not digital (like singing and drums).

So you can find a show that you like. Just think about only having one or two for the entire time you're using your mixer!! Boooooring!

It will hook up to a layla, but only if you use the right pick up line. Try a behringer! They're soooo much better and Mackie sucks a hard one. Just don't get suckered into buying a ghost or something, because they're the cream of the crop CRAP.

No, effects, compressors, and preamps can only be used on other effects, compressors, and preamps. Why would you want to preamp anything that's not a preamp, compress anything that's not compressable, etc..

A multitrack recorder let's you put different flavors on different things. Usually a multitrack has a space for guitars, drums, and vocals, each with their own flavor to make sure it sounds good. Most of the time if you have one of these you can just set everything up on the fly and have it come out perfect, therefore you won't need your effects or compressors (see above).

And you know that means that the Analogs are much better, because louder is better.

Why not do a search on mixers on this board before asking.
This question has been answered like a couple of hundred times before.

Digital mixers which use binairy numbers on channels eh? lol!!
I've got a digital-hexadecimal board which has 16 channels! (uhu)
Glad I didn't fall for the binairy ones...

either do a search and find what you want - and prove your not a dumbass (maybe too late) or buy a whole bunch of blank cd's and start burning disks, i think that might be the only way you're gonna make good music.

seriously, many who use their computer for recording don't even have mixers. look into that option and blow your mind!

deja vu

take a look at the history on hottsauce. click on his name and look at his profile , I did. And I read every thread he has started. This is either someone that knows what he's talking about, but acting like a newbie??? Or this guy is really just on here to argue with people??? I can tell, I want to say its someone playing a joke, but you would think it would get old by now? Or maybe not, I cant tell. But my point is , there is somthing strange with this one??? Maybe he started out a newbie, and just got pissed , and now hes just fucking with people.

I think that might be it.

Personally I only record track per track, and use the different colors in the mixer's pre's ...

channel one on the behringer sounds like a monday (=it's broken),
channel two sounds like wednesday (=only the bottom half of the fader works)
channel five sounds like saturday night (=the treble is broken and the bass is always on +12dB)
channel six is my compressor (=it has no headroom and clips constantly)
channel seven is the D.I. (=the XLR is non-functional)
etc...

I don't need different preamps, my Behringer is an all-in-one miracle!
