Bass Solo

I wrote and performed this at the 1995 Music West Star Fret Competition in Vancouver BC. It was sponsored by Guitar Player magazine, Bass Player magazine, Fender, and a few other companies.

I competed in the 19yrs+ division. It was down to me and one other fella. We both played our solo's and it was I who won.

I thought it would be fun to lay it down on the MR-8 after all these years, be warned it is done with one cut no punch-ins and there are many mistakes. It is called Bass solo (no surprise)

Enjoy

SMOKIN!!!! OK Geddy er...Clif, we gotta get you a project to work on so you'll stop showin off! Man that was great....especially that segment with the EVH hammers goin...well I liked the arpeggios too. Hard to believe you were able to do that at 19! I'm workin on another one for ya right now, cept it's for Gospel to sing and I remembered after I had the trax almost done that he wanted it a semitone higher! Ain't nothin but a thing, I'm gettin old and don't remember much of what I did an hour ago, much less a conversation I had a month ago!

My bass just got tossed into the dumpster. You rock and I suck.

Nice work man.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I had a lot of fun putting this one together back then.

In the end a good ...no a great bassist lays down the groove that fits the song. Everything else is just chops and flash.

Thumbs up

Way to Go Clif !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Both of your songs on Nowhere Radio are Great! The Bass Solo has kind of a Jaco/Stu Hamm/Jeff Berlin kind of feel to it. As Bass solos go it really keeps the listeners attention rather than random wankings that I've heard in some bass solos. X-Jam has a pretty cool groove on the drum machine and great keyboard harmonies! What kind of drum machine/Keys did you use?
I Give It ************!!!!

Thanks realityflaw!

I was very influenced by the work of Stu Hamm 9although I also really dig Jaco and Berlin as well).

As far as the drum/keys I use the Boss DR-5 drum machine/synth. I got it for 150.00 off of EBAY. Basically a glorified drum machine with a few synth patches and since I cannot play the keybard, programming the DR-5 is way easier for me (since the notes correspond to a guitar neck).

ANyhow thanks for listening to my solo.
