VF-80 -- a buzzy noise...

I was halfway into a session last night when I noticed a buzz start happening as I was sitting, waiting to record a track. It just started as I was sitting there... When the record was in stand-by mode, the buzz would raise/lower slightly as the red record light flashed. It would go off if I disarmed the track.

As I say it just appeared as I was sitting, waiting, with a track already armed for a few minutes. So i know exactly when it started. Fiddling with wires didn't help.

HOWEVER, when I shut everything down, I went downstairs to find a fluorescent light in my kitchen was buzzing alot (never did this before). Could this cause interference on my VF80?

Were you listening through cans? I know the MR8's sometimes have that in the headphones circuitry, all you have to do is turn it off and then on again and it usually fixes the problem.

Buzzing

The light might be a factor...also, check your power. If there is an inconsistancy with the power...that also may be a problem.
Static electricity or any other electrical appliance can cause the buzz. If you are too close to the power source, if the instrument is too close to the unit (you'll see this with amps alot)...it's similar to feed back. I have even noticed a buzz clip with my condenser mic. (it uses phantom power) Oh also, speakers and computers can contribute to it if the unit is too close) I have had my experience with power flux and interference by trial and error.
It might also be wise to invest in an UPS (back-up battery and surge protector)....this will protect against brown-outs/black outs and powersurges that will eventually protect against hard drive surface problems. You'll thank me in the end.
If you live in a Townhome or apartment, I especially recommend it. Who knows....it could be coming from a neighbor blowdrying his backhair. Anyway...hope this helps.
BTW....change that bulb!

flouresent tubes and neon can cause a buzz in my pa system i dont see why not with a recorder, but you would have to be pluged into the same breaker as the flouresent, im pretty sure.....

Weird buzzes that come and go, eh? Could be all that electrical stuff....but then again it's most likely you've got a ghost. We have a poltergeist who visits sometimes. Any violent deaths in your house you know about?

I had one too many wires hooked up between the keyboard I was using and a preamp I'd been using before... Once I unplugged the extra connection, no buzz... But I will still look into violent deaths... Always good to keep up on these things, and I've been a bit remiss on this.

Ah, yes, it suddenly stopped because you unplugged a bit of wire. This can only mean one thing. Not only do you have a ghost but he's a highly intelligent one who's watching you all the time. Lulling you into a false sense of security.

Every time you turn the machine on in future, that little thought will be at the back of your mind - is he coming back today? And it's all my fault. Where's the emoticon for an evil laugh........

Oh Bill, you're just padding your post count now. I'd have thought you were above that sort of thing. Especially now you know you're being watched..........

I HAVE THE VF08 AND THE SAME THING HAPPENS TO
IT SOMETIMES. I DON'T HAVE A CLUE AS TO WHAT CAUSES
IT BUT IT IS PRETTY ANNOYING. I NOTICED SOMTIMES
THAT THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENS TO MY PC, EVERY
TIME I MOVE THE MOUSE AROUND IT MAKES THE SAME NOISE
AND IT COMES AND GOES.

wiring...

I'll bet you have an errant wire causing the issue, or perhaps something like a dimmer switch causing the problem. Other than this, my VF80 has been entirely without buzz.

YA, COULD BE SOMTHING LIKE THAT. IT HASN'T HAPPENED

Well, that kind of proves it. The same with vampires and mirrors apparently. Have you guys checked your crockery recently?
