It'll make a big difference for sure. At first you'll wonder how you ever lived without it but after a while you will want to never use it again.

Those are great for cassette studios but not great for the modern digital studio...buy a mic instead.

It's the sonic equivalent of a tube mic stand.

Mics and GOOD pres are a much better investment towards good sound.

I have one from the VERY old tape days. I agree with Jake, put your money towards a good mic.

k thanks guys....i still have a question about rack signal processors....how would i hook up a compressor with my sound card...for compressing during and as well as after recording?
heres my setup...

behringer mixer --direct outs to inputs of m-audio delta 1010

outputs 1 and 2 of sound card go to the tape in of the same behringer mixer

"monitors" (quotes because theyre regular computer speakers haha) are hooked up to the headphone jacks

now where would the compressor go? (for during and after recording or during mixing, whatever u call it)

Funny chess..

It would go on the mixers inserts. Don't make the mistake of putting it on auxes.

This is not only untrue but doesn't even make any sense...

The sonic maximizer will give a very audible result for sure, I just think the crispieness of it gets a bit old very fast.

Do you guys think the sonic maximizer would be better used on a PA. I can't really tell what it does but I thought it was used more for live sound than recording which would actually make sense for my band to buy.

I use that BBE unit with a PA every weekend. I think it works great in that application. It "clears" up the mix pretty nicely. When I use a house system without it, I miss it. It's simple to use and unless you have the worlds greatest PA system, you won't be able to hear what most people seem to not like about it. In the studio, at first listen it seems to sound better, but then you start to notice a "processed" quality to the sound that's a bit unnatural sounding. But live at 100db+ through an average PA system it makes a real positive difference.
I have it hooked up using insert cables on the main buss of a 2000watt carvin system. If you want it for PA, IMHO definately get it... for studio--avoid at all costs.
