digital recorders

Hi.
I'm looking to replace my 24 track board/layla setup with something digital, self contained and portable. It needs to record 8 tracks at the same time (for drums). I've been looking into the VF-160. It seems good, but doesn't seem to have xlr inputs. To anyone who has used this, is this a big deal? I was thinking just getting some IMP's would work fine...? Help?? Thanks

I believe it has two xlr jacks. There are some people that frequent the forum who use the VF-160. Hang loose and they will be on here soon.

Are you looking for something with 8 xlr's? You might need to spend some of that hard earned cash for that...........then again, I don't really know for sure either. It just seems like I've not seen anything like that. You could always use adapters, but I don't think you get phantom power capability with those. Course you could always use a mixer.

Or get the new Behringer ADA8000 8-channel preamp with Adat-i/o so you'll have total of ten XLR inputs with phantom power and six unbalanced 1/4" inputs.

Yep, the VF160 has two XLR's. Unless you already have a bunch of IMP Direct Boxes, I'd go with the Behringer DI's. 30 Bux each.

The ADA8000 won't be available here in the US till Mid Oct. I'm waiting for it. 16 Tracks at once ain't nuttin to sneeze at...

Beyond comprehension

Here in my "little mr-8 world", the thought of 16 simultaneous tracks is mind boggling and a little frightening, but oh, the possibilities!

So how many inputs/mics are necessary to mic drums well enough?

So what's an ADA8000 run anyway?

cellardweller;

The street price on the ADA8000 is going to be $200.00.

It generally takes between 4 and 8 Mics to properly mic Drums. Depends on the Mics, the Room, and how the Drummer Plays.
