FD4 - how to get recording to computer - not getting sound w/line in on snd card

I just got an fd4 and I am also new to recording. I am having trouble getting the recordings to the computer. I have a soundblaster 32 512pci sound card, and cakewalk sonar 2.0 editing software.
here's what I have done so far:

1. I connect a rca to 1/8" adapter to the rca out jacks on the rear of the fd4(ones on the end)
2. connect the other end to line in on sound card...not getting a signal to the computer
3. I then plugged in to the microphone jack of the sound card.....I get a signal and can record to sonar but I get this awful hummm

What can I do to get the line in on the sound card to work, am I overlooking something simple, HELP!!!!!

First order of business is to check all cables....even new cables can be bad especially if the came from radio shack. Next, check your adaptor, same rule applies there. If all is good, try another device plugged into the soundcard, to check it. Next, attach the rca's of the fd4 to an amplifier to be sure you have a signal there. That should get you started finding the problem anyway.

Get in to your "volume control" in windows (should be a little speaker in the lower right corner of your screen). Then go to "options" -> "properties" -> "recording". Make sure the box for "line in" is checked, and the volume isn't turned all the way down. Right now it's probably set on microphone. That should fix it. Good luck

Good tip ignition, I didn't even think about that. It's been so long since I recorded on the computer.

Thanks for your replies guys...I'm new to all this stuff..I'm sure I'll need your help again!

It was a combo of things....I had to select recording mode in (line in) for sound card..... and the cable adapter was mono so iwas only getting one side of stereo recording...if that makes any sense to you.
