Monitors, front or rear ported??
I was told front ported monitors are better if the monitor is close to a wall. Is this true and how much room do I need between the wall and the monitor?

In general this is true. As I am not particularly good at discribeing the physics of speakers, I will leave it to someone else to discribe why.

Try not to place your speakers near the wall. At least 3ft out would be good.

I've also heard it said that you can place your monitors very close to your wall if you can't get them far enough away. This way the reflected sound and the original sound are virtually identical. I believe you can only do this if you have front ported speakers.
