kick bass seperation

i know this has to already be discussed, so any thread links will work to, but im looking for articales on this topic. I'm having a heck of a time getting good seperation from my kick an bass i tracked them well they both sound like what i want them to sound like but, when they come together they clash big time. The bass swallows my kick I've tried seperate compression even panned delayed bass track with the direct track still cant get the seperation im after i must be doing something wrong but i dont know what and its fustrating

Cool

try this technique, but experiment with the right situation for your tracks......

at 100 hz, boost the kick a few db and cut the bass a few db, or even roll off the lows of the bass there......

at 200-250 hz, cut the kick a few db and boost the bass a few db

also, find the upper frequencies of these and do the same thing...try kick at around 2khz and bass around 3khz

try increasing the 3-4khz on the kick drum to help it cut thru the bass...also do a low on the bass at around 60-50hz

DeadPoet is on a distinguished road
What gidge says. Cutting a freq on one creates a space for the other.
