How much to master?

My band is recording a 6 song ep on a fostex mr8. The recording is good... its just we all lack at mixing/mastering..

I was wondering how much some of you would charge to master.. or maybe do a trade off for something else or something...

we don't have alot of money.. we just want to get our demo nice sounding before we start sending it out.

Check out the prices at The Mastering Lab.

I was just talking to my father-in-law about this the other day. He used The Mastering Lab for his last CD, and he was very pleased with the results. He says they gave him a good deal -- I think he said it was $350 for the whole enchilada.

bleyrad will become famous soon enough
i'll mix for $10/hour canadian... generally songs take me around 3-5 hours to mix, depending on lots of things, including the recording and how much time you want me to spend.

examples of my work:

rock

jazz

i'll also do pseudo-mastering for the same price (i pseudo-mastered both of those songs) or you can send out the mixes to be mastered elsewhere.

contact me at dasbin@shaw.ca if you're interested.

For 350 you can walk in the lab's front door and walk out of the rear door..............without stopping. One thing they would not do however, and that's mastering a CD for 350

I thought that perhaps I had heard him wrong, so I asked him about it again this past Monday. He said it was some kind of special deal they were offering to indie labels. (He runs an indie.) He also said that he did the final sequencing, fades, etc., back in his own studio. I told him about the rates I saw on their web site. He said, "That's just their 'book rate.' They would like to get that much, but they usually don't." I cannot think of any reason in the world why he would have lied to me about this. If anything he would have been tempted to exaggerate the trouble and expense he went through to make his CD sound great (which it does!).

Here are the credits for the CD.

So, take it as hearsay. I know my father-in-law, and you don't. You don't know me, either, for that matter.
