How do you practice before recording with MR-8?

Can't seem to find this in the manual:

After recording a track I want to practice playing the second track before actually recording it. Problem is when I play the 1st track back I can't hear the guitar while I play along unless I record it. Any suggestions?

I just bought my MR-8, Tom. Haven't used it yet, but was looking in the manual and found play back functions on page 49.

Not much help, but at least someone answered your question.

Tom, all you have to do it arm the track, this is done by pressing the button above the track you want to record on. Then press the record button, this will allow you to hear your guitar and practise the part you want to record. When you are ready to do a take just press record and play at the the same time. It is also a good idea to get into using the locate A and B buttons. This is very easy. Just press store and locate A at the point you want to begin practising your part and then press Store locate B at the point you want to stop playing. You can then press the play mode button three times and this will activate the loop function. Doing this will make the music play back for you at the points you want to record. You can then practise the part as much as you want. When you are ready to record the take, take off the loop by pressing the play mode button once, then press auto punch and rewind a little bit before the point you want to drop in. Press record and play at the same time and you can do the punch in. Be careful when you do this, it is best to press the record button and as you are pressing it, press the play button. This may seem like a lot of stuff to get down at first, but when you've done it a few times it becomes second nature and you wont have to think too much about it. It's really a good idea to spend some time getting this down, it will make life a lot easier for you in the future. keep checking in with us here if you have any more questions.

Thanks, everyone, for chiming in. I'm glad I found a support forum for my new toy!

Ended up solving my own problem last night. I could record 1 part and then record a 2nd part with it just fine. My problem was that I thought I had to be _recording_ while I played the 2nd part in order to hear the 1st part (sounds like a legal contract, doesn't it ).

Turns out that if you arm the track and then hit record it switches to "monitor input" mode. Then if you press "play" (not record & play at the same time) you can jam along with the recorded tracks and not lay down a 2nd track. Since it's digital it's not like the old tape recorders where you'd wear out a track if you kept re-recording, but I still like to practice without recording until I'm ready. Of course, you never know when you're going to play something special and really wish you had been recording!

I'm sure my technique will change about 100 more times over the next few months so we'll see.................

I recommend also using the loop feature for practicing. Press the play mode switch until it reads loop, set the A / B position markers and your track will loop forever. I use this feature a lot while writing. It really allows me to jam the hell out of a part and develop the idea through.
