How do you find out what version you have.

I'm fed up with my computer crashing when I use Sonar, so I just bought a MR-8. The color isn't impressive, to me.

Haven't used it yet. Afraid to after the experiences I was subjected to by Sonar.

It's funny, I was thinking about nineteen years ago about changing my handle to James. If I did, we all have the same initial. I'm to late though. But I have a new MR-8.

Badgas, try N-track, you may be pleasantly surprised. I don't know what your computer is like, but N-track works really well on slower machines. The MR8 will work well for you if you track in it and then edit on the computer. Most of us here are using n-track and having a ball. By the way, I agree with you about the color, red is a little cheesy for my taste, but then I don't like red cars either.

Morindae.

N-Track?
Is that hardware, or software.

I've heard of it.
I've used sonar so long I figured nothing else mattered.

I've an P-lll, 800 MHz, 384 MB Ram, Two 40 Gig Drives, Win98se.

I shouldn't say Sonar is the cause of it.
I don't know what the problem is, only that it seems my partitions are not stable anymore.
Guess it's time to wipe the drives and start fresh.

I'll check into the N-Track Thing.

You shouldn't have any trouble running n-track at all. I believe with your OS you will have to have a card reader to transfer files, but some of the others on here can help you out on that. I'm running XP and am not familiar with the readers.
Oh yeah, and n-track is software. It's not but about $45. It's better than a lot of multi-tracking software that costs $100s.

When you turn the MR-8 on watch the screen and it will say what version you are running. If you have a version lower than version 1.03 you will have issues transferring files to the pc. I have version 1.03 and haven't had any problems whatsoever. I would like to also know what is the difference between 1.03 and 1.05.

Badgas,
Welcome to the frat! I'm sure your computer will support n-Track, although I'm not sure but what Sonar would do just as well. I've been having some problems transferring tracks and I have decided to defrag my HD again. Don't be afraid to use the MR8, it's been one of the most stable pieces of equipment I own. I think my problems are computer related as well.

Dad!

Don't tell me your hard drive is crapping out on you too!

It really bummed me out when our transfer kept clipping...it was a pretty good recording...did you manage to salvage the data from the MR8 to redo it?
You'd probably have better luck with re-doing it then depending on my lazy butt to do the vox again...
Just kidding...talk at ya later.

Interesting. I have been using sonar xl for the past two years. I'm pretty comfortable with it. It'll do the same thing N-track does, won't it? Disk space isn't a problem here.

Thanks for the reply.

That screen,,,!!!! I can't see much on it. I hava a magnifiying glass someplace around here.
The light doesn't do a whole lot to improve the screen. Possibly I have the 1.03 and the 1.05 is a better screen.

Thanks again, gospel.

Thanks for the advice, bdbdbuck.
I'll feed it to sonar and find out. I'll let you know who eats who.

There is also, I can't remember exactly where, screen settings where you can make the screen easier to read. Check under menu and system.

Thanks Gospel. I'll do that tonight.

Ok. I emailed Fostex about the updates and this is what I recieved.

Hi!

The major update was done with version V.1.03, and V.1.04 and V.1.05 are minor updates.

V.1.04:Logical format can be performed with the CF cards which has more than 32 sectors per track.

V.1.05: Corrected intermittent switching noise , when you swich from NORMAT to EXTENDED mode within a same card.
Matt Suzuki

So not much was updated in the most recent revisions.
Hope this helps some people.
