EQ'ing monitors?

Hey guys! So here's the deal.

My monitors suck and I have no money. I have two pairs, nearfields are powered Yorkville YSM1's and the bigger Yorkville YSM3's with 12" woofers hanging from the ceiling, powered by a home stereo amp. Sux fer sher. The nearfields are okay for detail work, but I like to do levels and such on the big ones for the fuller range.

But the big ones have an upper mid spike to them. So its driving me nuts, as the pirate with the steering wheel sticking out of his pants once said. I also have a shitty listening environment.

So here's my question;

Is my six month old Studio Projects T3 accurate enough to do a pink noise EQ thing to tune them? Is this a good idea till I get rich enough to buy a power amp and a real studio? Is my Alesis stereo 1/3 octave EQ okay for this?

Should I do this? What's your shoe size? How much wood could a wood......never mind.

Thanks for any help!

Cos.

EQing monitors doesnt work. Use acoustic treatments and speaker positioning to solve your problems.

Last resort, If you want to try and do this, or at least get an idea of the response, get the behringer ECM8000 mic it's only like $40 You can even get it and them get it calibrated.

This is the magnum opus thread about monitors and EQ http://homerecording.com/bbs/showthr...threadid=52680

It is longer than war and peace and has more twists and turns then a country road. You will laugh, cry and scream in frustration. You will get to know a motley arrangement of characters thrown together in the pursuit of one common goal. In the end there are some bruised egos and a few outstanding grudges but life is never perfect. I give it a thumbs up.
