Richard Hoover, owner(?) of Santa Cruz Guitars is gonna do an in-store workshop this Thursday, May15, at A-Sharp Music in Renton, WA, at 7:00pm.

Here's what the flyer says:

This workshop will be a delight for the guitar afficianado who can leave this presentation with the confidence of knowing how to get exactly what they want in their next acoustic guitar. Do not miss this opportunity to expand your understanding of the guitar from a master luthier."

I'm gonna try to make it down there for this workshop. Should be very cool.

It should be! They never have anything like that around here. Do me a favor and ask him what he thinks about Regal guitars. I'd love to get an expert's thoughts.

Don't Miss It!!

Richard Hoover is among the best luthiers ever and his guitars kick!

I'd be diplomatic about asking him questions about Regals, though. Regal is an entry level import, and because it's such a price buster there are pretty serious compromises made. Open one up and look inside, and it looks like a train wreck. Hoover isn't likely to be able to say much good about them other than the price of a Regal lets people into the world of reso music. I'm not dissing Regal - and I might end up getting one myself - but realize that Hoover is all about top end instruments, and is probably not the guy to ask.

If I ask anything it's gonna be "have you got a lefty OM in Brazilian with a nice bear-claw top that I can demo for a few months?"
