do we still need the amp?

With amp mod blowing up so fast, do we really need to mic the amp while recording or would direct line on a mod do just as well?

Do both.

In almost all cases, a miked amp sounds much better than an amp modeler.

However, you can also get really good results blending a miked amp and a DI.

When in doubt, experiment.

If yer planning to buy any flavor of Line6's POD, check out the Line 6 POD Forums, at http://www.podtalk.com

It's not all that populated, right now, as it's only been around maybe 2 months, and somebody here told me about it. I'm planning to buy a Bass POD, sometime this summer, and still have plans to buy both a POD Pro & Bass POD Pro (both rackmountable). The owner of the site (Tonemonster) has described the use of 2 PODs, for various effects.
