Well my Telacoustic arrived today, here is my review.

Looks: I got the natural bonde and I must say it is beautiful, nothing less than a empty body on a tele.

Build: The neck looks and feels just like my tele necks, The body seems to have a strong build and good feel. Tuning gears are strong and on point. The bridge seems a little cheesy. The elect. setup is very nice and on point.

Sound: With all the great things going for this guitar, it does sound very thin and to me would be of no use live or recording.

Feel: It feels just like a tele and plays very smoothly.

Overall: It is a good axe for the price if you are a tele fan. I bought it to use while writing and to carry on vacation etc... so for me it is great.

Did ya try it plugged in? Personally, I wouldn't own one because of the thin sound you described, but the one I tried at Guitar Center (Indy) I didn't plug in, so my opinion is, of course, biased. Once I get my Ibanez AG75 out of lay-away, next month, I'll have to try it unplugged, although it's considered an electric guitat...just hollow bodied.

You should've checked out a Godin Acousticaster before buying a Telecoustic.... it puts that thing to shame.

yeah, godin does their homework on acoustic electronics setups. i wouldn't hesitate to put them on my "must try" list for any kind of hybrid.

I mostly got it cuz imma huge tele fan and wanted something small to tug around while im in writing sessions. For that it is perfect, however it aint worth shit for recording or a real live gig.

The Acousticaster really shines in recording sessions and live use.

Don't you think it would be worth it to have a guitar that's as versatile as the Godin Acousticaster? I do.

Ive had the stratacoustic for about 2 years now...you definately wont blow any one away with the unplugged tone, but its decent plugged in...i mostly use mine for jamming on the couch, working out new stuff...im interested to hear the new design, supposedly they addressed the tone issue, but the price doubled too...lately ive been thinking about replacing it...

I once asked a salesman at a Guitar Center what he thought of the Telecoustic and Stratacoustic and not even he tried to sell it to me.

The Godins are great but cost several times more, and even more if you want to buy the effects stuff that you need if you want it to sound like an acoustic guitar, so if what one wants is an acoustic guitar sound one is much better off getting an acoustic guitar with good electronics.

The Acousticaster is acoustic right outta the case... with no need for any add-ons.

The guitars you're describing are LGX and LGX-SA models.

The Acousticaster costs about twice as much, not "several times more"... yet, it's a million times more versatile in tone and playability. I've plugged my Acousticaster into my Marshall AVT-50 Combo with great results. You can also play it like an electric guitar, effects and all, with no problem. The Acousticaster has a neck that's closer to an electric guitar, so it's faster and allows for smooth, speedy playing all up and down the neck.... something that can be a plus if you're used to playing electrics or have smaller hands.

So far, everyone who's ever played my Acousticaster have raved about it's acoustic tone and it's playability. Two of those people have since bought one after playing mine.

This is a classic case of "You get what you pay for."

The Telecoustic is cheap, and it plays like it's cheap.
That's not a slam... it's just a fact.

The list price, which nobody EVER pays (unless they are a complete idiot) is around $950. You can still get an Acousticaster brand new for around $675 if you do your homework and hunt around. You can fine 'em on ebay for around $400 - $450 in mint condition. I could've bought an Acousticaster for less than $500 USD when I was in Vancouver, BC two years ago... due to the exchange rate. But I already got one, so it would've just been a profit-maker for me. I also had one of my own guitars with me and some extra luggage, so I didn't want to pay the airline the extra $40 to transport it... which would've cut into my profit margin.

Anyway, here's an accurate review that sums up the Acousticaster quite honestly... with the specs, the advantages, and disvantages of this guitar.
