Question strange insturmental & vocal sounding

hi,
first of all, sorry 4 my englisch
well my problem is, that when i record some vocals (rap)
and i add them ie to an instrumental (which has been mastert, ie let's take a comemcrial one like 50 cent in da club or something like this) it'S sounds weird..
it's like if there is the beat and there is some1 rapping, but it doesn'T sound as 1 piece, but 2 pieces... i hope u understand me!
my other problem is that i need to make to voice louder so the text can be heared clearly, but that way the beat is too low :/
when i got nearly the same volume, u can'T understand the vocal clearly, like i want :/
any1 got ideas what i should edit?! maybe some frequencies on the vocal should be highered and some lowered on the instrumental?!
plz help me! tnx ...

btw my mic is a cheap sony one - F-V300, so they quality isnt that fine, but I guess it should do it

Tnx!

Where are you from?

Just wondering from your poor english...

I've written a few Hip-Hop/Cool Edit Pro 2.0 Tutorials.

I don't have any here with me though... so your best bet is to search Hip-Hop forums for various tutorials.

you can find some of mine at www.hiphopairplay.com in the "Tricks of the Trade" forum...

also check out www.rapmusic.com in their forums, they have alot of helpful info.

Good luck.

Maybe the instrumental background has effects on it, especially reverb - so if your vocal doesn't have the same effect (especially reverb) it will sound really different. For example, if the music sounds like it was played in a big room, but your vocal sounds like it was sung in a telephone booth, they'll sound really different - in this example, you'd have to add reverb to the vocal so that it sounded like it was sung in a bigger space.

You'll probably get better results when you learn how to compress the vocal - that'll reduce its dynamic range and allow you to turn up its volume (which will make it easier to hear the quieter parts of the vocal more easily).
