Listened to your advice...

I posted a song (Heaven or Near) here some days ago, and one of the main critics was: the drums sound to 'far away', because of some overprocessing and all.

So, with that in mind, I did a test to improve my drumrecordingskills, and this is the result of a VERY ROUGH mix, but with a lot less eq-processing and just a little touch of reverb:

(Drum Track Test)

Oh and don't care about the playing, it was just played very quickly for this test, I know the timing sucks and all.

Well, I'm really looking forward to hear the next stream of comments, it will defenitely help me getting further. THANKS!

Hey, alweer een hollander!

Could you post a high quality mp3 of this?

Sounds good, btw. Dry & thin, but in a good way. I'd love to hear it with a band...

Wel opgemerkt...maar nog nooit het woord 'Holland' gezien....je naam was op zich een goede indicatie. Maar soms ben ik een beetje sloom...

Hebbie mijn muziek al uitgecheckt?

No you're not. Otherwise there would have been a "boom boom" in there somewhere.

BTW, I've never been able to figure out why your country has two names. What's up with that?

You know...like "The United States" or "America"...

BTW - I had a chinese professor in college (the man was from China, I wasn't taking a Chinese course, lol), and he said that the translation of what the Chinese refer to the U.S. as is "Beautiful Kingdom," which I thought was cool.

As opposed to us naming a 5,000 year old country after a plate, lol.

I really wish I could play the drums, lol.

My initial thoughts are that you have some good recording techniques going on, but that kick is going to need to get bigger. See for the stuff I do, a kick drum is no big deal, and it's considered sacriledge to put FX on a kick, but for your tune, I think a bump of that kick in the low low lows (below 80Hz) and a little bigger verb would do wonders for it.

The ride sounds like a trash can lid to me... I like the hat a lot...it's kinda' low, which I think is the way it should be. Snare...this might sound dangerous, but if you tried some kind of a plate reverb on it (very small), I think you'd get the ambience you're looking for without all the S P A C E that big reverbs can muck up a mix with.

*WARNING* MY DRUM TRACKS SUCK

Thanks, chrisharris! I will go on and work further on the kick and snare, and post the result soon. Oh and btw; that 'ride' is a china-cymbal, supposed to sound like a thrash can lid. It was just because I wanted to test my new techniques with some LOUD playing .

Pedullist: Ik ben zelfs groot fan van uw muziekjes, tot Trafo aan toe.. serieus, ik vind ze echt bijzonder/ leuk enz.!
