D-1624 screen artifacts??

I'm just transferring some wave files to PC now and i'm noticing that the numbers/letters etc... on the screen are quickly flashing or changing like a glitch in the matrix type thing.

I am using an extension cable for the conrol panel but im not sure that this is the cause, other than that all seems to be running fine.

Anyone seen this on their machine??

Its the cable, i hooked it up without it and the artifacts are gone...i wonder if it could damage the machine running a extension cable for the control unit?

Hiya Mix,

Is it an original Fostex cable.........and how long is it?

I know that Fostex used to say something about potential glitches when using extn cables, but I don't know that there was ever any definitive answer about it.

The original Fostex extn cable, part # 8551, is cream in colour, although they have now superceded that with #8551B which is black, obviously to match the later series of recorders.

They are 5 mtrs long and according to the manual, you can link 2 together for a maximum remote length of 10 mtrs.

I know I once read that you can use a normal PC cable, but I would have some reservations about that. If your extn cable doesn't match that description closely, I would hazard a guess that you have a non genuine cable which is possibly the cause of the problems.

It may be worth contacting Syntec for further info........02 94174700.

Lightbulb

You could use any 15-pin D-sub cable. It does not have to be the Fostex one. You just have to make sure that the cable has all 15 pins. I think some monitor extension cables have less.

I works for me anyway.
