Delta 1010LT and the SBLive together??!!

Here's a Q for a few of you that I believe are using the SBLive with another sound card together. The question, as most of my questions, might be a silly one with a quick and easy answer but here it is nonetheless:

I just plugged in my 1010LT, installed the software etc... however, I still have my SB Platinum Live and wish to continue to use it. I use the optical out of the SB to connect my Roland DS-90 monitors plus I use the Aux in 2 in the "front panel" to connect the audio outs of my Roland midi module and I want to continue to use the SB for soundfonts... now, the problem is that I cannot monitor what I am recording in Sonar 2.0 unless I go to Options>>Audio>>Input monitoring and select the inputs I want to monitor... which for some reason sounds screwed... it doesn't sound nice at all.... anyways... what can I do??!!!!!!!

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

The nr one sollution to problems with SB Live!-cards is to get it as far away from your computer as possible, if you can smash it with a hammer, that's advisable. Ok, that's just me...

It's quite possible that SB Lives drivers can be the cause of a driver-conflict.

If you get rid of the card and still wants to use soundfonts, check out Livesynth Pro DXi.

I used a SB Live along side my Audiophile 2496 for a year and never had issues.

What drivers are you using, WDM or ASIO (or perhaps kx-drivers for the SB Live?)...

If you've set the output to SB Live! and are trying to use Input Monitoring, you need low latency, and you don't get that with the SB Live... that may be the cause of the Input Monitoring weird sound. The sollution would be to set the output to the Delta.

I'm using WDM drivers. But how would I change to ASIO?!! I haven't figured that out yet anyways... I tried to connect my DS-90 digital monitors to the SPDIF out of the Delta and nothing.... not even after I selected the Delta SPDIF OUT to be the default audio playback... NO SOUND....

HELP!!!!!!!!!
Anybody that uses the SB with another card care to tell me how they have it set up to work??!!

You can't use ASIO-drivers (I just remembered the SB Live doesen't support them).

And perphaps you need to activate SPDIF out in the Delta Control Panel.

VMain A (if you're using VMain A, that is ) must be set to output through the SPDIF output. If windows can handle it, then Sonar shure like hell can!

I think it's easiest to control that in the Console View. Bring it up. Look at the bottom of VMain A, and click on it. Select the SPDIF output (which is likely to be the last one in the list).

I think I know where the problem lies:

When I start a project in SOnar, and I insert an audio track, I can select the Input>> Left MAudio Delta 1010LT etc... but I cannot select the output of the Delta in the track view... and one more thing... what will happen when I select a midi track, will I have to connect the Midi out to the Delta's midi out if I want to hear it??!! What about Sound Fonts??!!! Or, what if, I send the SPDIF out of the Delta into the SPDIF IN of the SB, and then connect the monitors (instead of connected to the SPDIF out of the Delta) to the Optical out of SB??!!! Would this work??!! And if it works, will it cause problems???!!! I feel like a moron but when I get desperate I can't seem to think straight....

Yes you can selec the Output of the Delta in the Track View. Click the button next to the All, Mix, FX, I/O-tabs at the bottom. This will give you access to the VMains and Aux-busses. But I still think it's easier in the Console View (and the result is the same anyway)...

And make shure you have selected all the outputs for the delta under Options -> Audio -> Drivers

Deltas MIDI I/O isn't a synth at all, so you won't hear any sound from them. If you want sound and uses soundfonts with the Live, output the midi to the SB Live.

And the crazy Delta-to-Live-to-Speakers might work. Then you'll hear the Delta and the SB Lives soundfonts. (But you're crossing the river for water. This would be much easier without the SB Live... )

First of all, thank you SO MUCH moskus for all the replies and your priceless help.

Ok, here's what I did and it seems to be working just fine:

I have my Midi Keyboard controller connected to the SB Live Midi In. I have my Roland Midi module connected to the Midi OUT of the SB. I have the SPDIF Out of the Delta connected to the SPDIF IN of the SB. I connected the stereo outs of the Midi Module to the RCA in's (3 & 4) of the Delta. Before I used to have the module hooked up to the Aux 2 in of the SB however, this conflicts with the SPDIF in of the SB because the SB can only support either one or the other, so I went and connected it the way I did. I enabled all input monitoring from the OPTIONS>>AUDIO>>INPUT MONITORING and everything seems to work fine. Sounds come crystal clear as they should etc HOWEVER Midi that plays through Sound fonts sounds really nice, loud and clear, but the signal that passes through my external midi module and then goes through the 3 & 4 ins of the Delta sounds quite low; even after I raised the output level of the module to the maximum. I can still work this way and when I finally convert those mid's to wav's I'll adjust the levels but I'm considering purchasing a stereo Y cable that'll take the L & R rca outs of the midi module and convert them to a single stereo 1/4" so that I can plug that into the 1/4" IN of the SB. The problem with that is that I wanted to have that Input available for plugging my electric guitar straight and still have midi sounding from the external module in the background. The purpose of sending the out of the midi module to the in of the SB live is that I can HEAR it without having to arm an audio track set for the stereo input of 3 & 4 of the Delta, plus the volume was louder. Any tips or ideas??!!!

Carlos

Hmmm... that's quite a combination.

If I had the equipment you use (I have a very similar setup), I would by a small mixer. It's just so much more simplier!

You run all the outputs to it, and connect the mixer out to the speakers. Consider the Behringer UB502. It has 3 line-ins and 1 mic input. But since you have such a great card (the Delta 1010) I would considder something bigger, like the MX1604A for full flexibility.

I use my 8in/8out soundcard and a coupple of synths and a MIDI-module with a Soundcraft Spirit Folio F1, and it works beautifully.
