STOP rapping about rapping!!!!
please, I beg of you!
All day long I record rappers who rap about rapping. Seriously! Please examine your raps, and see if you are rapping about rapping more than 10% or so of the time. I mean, I dont see metal bands with EVERY song going " yeah were a metal band we play meatl metal is what we play cuz we play metal I play metal on my guitar with my guitar I play metal yeah yeah and we play metal better than you cuz you dont play metal like we play metal our crew is metal your crew isnt metal were more metal " sounds STUPID doesnt it? STOP DOING THE SAME DAMN THING please ![]()

Just a ramble rap - my second time to ever write a rap.
Stop "rapping" about "rapping" Cuz while we're "scrapping" - I'd rather be "tapping" That ass from your "last fling" - what was her name, "Eileen?" She tasted like "ice cream" - and had really bad "hygiene" But maybe I'm "Ly-ing" - Cuz your mom tastes "nothing" like "cookies and cream" Okay - abyss, tell me what you thought? I'ma hafta getcha ta holla 'bouts my skillz straight up out mah grill. ha ha. I definitely need work, I know. I'm improving - would you say it's better than the last one? -muzakal |

what???
if you know anything about the history and origin of hip hop, then you would know that it is the foundation. it all started from crews battling to out do each other in; graffiti art, breakin, RAPPING, dj'ing, beat boxing, dressing. it's all apart of hip hop, and it's here to stay playa.

Whoa jugz, that was way better than mine.
Don't take my rapping seriously (unless you think it's cool) I'm mainly the producer/singer/songwriter type. Just scoped your setup pictures and I definitely gotta get me a black light now. Mad skillz, keep it up. -muzakal |

go back a little farther still. You're in Georgia, shouldnt be too hard to get " the rest of the story" on the history of rap. Go back another 20 or 30 years to the invention of the CB radio. Once you got YOUR rap history straight, we can go back to the ghetto and talk about those early MC's that fused rap with samples, loops and scratches. Even THEY didnt just rap about rapping.
It wasnt till a group of white boys from a punk rock band, decided to make an album making fun of rap, especially targeting the rapping about rapping, rampant materialism, and the glory of guns, that these themes became mainstays. It would have been nice if more of the rap community at the time could tell the difference between someone laughing with them, and someone laughing AT them, but history is history and thats how it goes. Still theres no need to carry on with this crap, rap about something besides rapping. Probably every rap that is still remembered past it being five years old WASNT about rapping

i can understand it if you do not like people who talk about thier rap skillz, but to ask it to stop is like asking steven speilerg to stop making just sci-fi movies or alpacino to stop playing just mob bosses and veteran police officers. that's your personal opinion and you are intitled to it, but just think about what you are saying.

if you got a field full of saturday night bruisers, you know how to tell who has the fastest car?
it crosses the finish line first You know how to tell who has the slowest car? they talk about how fast it is All the best rap songs that I can remember were NOT rapping about rapping. The ones I got a problem with are UNestablished bands rapping about how great they rap and about how BIG they already are when theyre nowhere yet. Its just stupid. Most of the best rap songs are BELIEVEABLE, it sounds like the guys are LIVING it as they rap it. If you wont buy your own performance, why would anyone else?

" beasties" was another name
their real name was The Young and the Useless, and they used to have a chick drummer, kate, and they played Seven Secondsish/Christ on Parade-ish/Youth Brigadeish stuff

G-G-Guess who's back?
Whoa, missed out on some shit last night by tha looks of things.
![]() Aight: I understand every1's opinion here, in general I tend ta' prefer shit when it's on about something, ie. it has a deep/deeper meaning. But sometimes rappin' about rappin' can be cool - I don't really feel for it much myself (unless tha' rapper has mad skills), but I know lots of people do an' that's cool. I think there's probably too much rappin' about rappin' tracks, but others may thin differently. I think rappin' 'bout rappin' can actually have some variation on tha theme ta' make it more interestin' if that's what they wanna rap about. I personally try to make everything I write about something different and have a different feel to it (if the beetles could do it then so can I) - but I know some people like talkin' 'bout similar subject matters. As long as you like what you're doin' - as long as you can look at it and be proud of yourself, regardless of what other people may think. You will always have people who don't like your music and some that do; it don't matter. And equally the same people get a choice of what music they buy/listen to - they may like some, won't like others (if every1 was inta' the same thing it'd be a bit borin'). And just 'coz someone don't like some1's music it don't mean they don't like/respect that person - every1 is unique. Aight, I'm not hatin' on any1 - y'all do ya' thang - I'm probably more tipped ta' pipeline's side in that I'm gettin' a bit bored wit it, but it can be cool sometimes - I just personally think it's a bit ovadone. My pennies -> no stabs, no hatin', ya'll do ya' thing. Now for muzakal: Quote:
. Can you write poetry? 'Coz they're really quite similar (2pac anyone?) - if you can write a good poem, you can write a good rap - you just need to put it to a beat, however if you're a good rap-writer you're not necessarily a good poet 'coz you can get away with a lot as your words are important but the vocals are too (way it is spit on the beat, etc.), unlike poetry which relies on words. A good way to improve is to try to use different words rather than the obvious rhymes - use more interesting words that are maybe less commonly used. Anyone can do it if they want to - jut keep tryin', differences can actually appear in relatively short spaces of time, believe me.Oh, and for anyone who's interested: Lookin' on the net for 50's new album (I've finally decided I'm gonna get it - don't laugh, I take my time and get what I know I will like after careful deliberation) and they were all sayin' in reviews stuff like "The difference between 50 cent and most other rappers out there (for example Ja Rule: when he talks about gangster things you just think 'aww how cute') is that when he talks about killin' you believe him. You believe what he is telling you" - then I was searchin' for more info. on what the "M-U-R-E-D-R inc" had ta' say 'bout the shady bombardment, just for a laugh and I wasn't disappointed - Ja Rule said (not exact quote, so don;'t pick me up on it) "Yeah they all reckon they're really hard, but the main difference between me and them is that when I say something I mean it and I will do it" ![]() It were a good laugh. - ova and out (Soul IV Real - can u spot ja?) |

Nice clarity from Abyss, especially on the concern about selling BELIEVABILITY
thats very important! I guess I should make myself clearer too. My problem comes from, us getting a large cross section of rap groups. Some who are made, some who are getting there, some who might, some who have NO chance. A lot of the mights and no chancers are those who we call " karaoke rappers ". They bring in a CD, MAYBE stereo if youre lucky. They usually claim to have bought this cd full of " beats " from a " beatmaker ". 99% of the time these beats are the worst shit you could imagine, usually burned from an mp3, usually mono, usually a VERY bad mix. You have NO WAY of turning up say, the bass or the kick, since its already mixed. Now, so you've established, the music itself is beyond total crap, and cant POSSIBLY help sell the song, instead it can only hurt it, and its up to you to tell the degree of destruction it causes. since the music is toast, the rapping MUST ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY the rap MUST kick ass...MUST...no 2 ways about it and then reality sets in. Over the crap ass pile of shit beat you hear variations on this EXACT same theme ( ONE song like this would be fine but when ALL of them are this EXACT song, its dead) " yo Im a rapper I rapp yo when I get up to the mic I rap From this mic you hear me rappin I rap harder than you you dont rap as hard as me I sell out every show <------NEVER played a show Every town I come to screams my name <-----NEVER left the 'hood ( burb ) our crew raps you crew dont rap as hard as our crew AK AK CAP CAP bust a cappin while Im rappin AK AK WUT? Glock Glock WUT ? Garcia Blunt WUT ? yo WUT? yo WUT? Cuz I be rappin" this is total crap. I know rappers are not ashamed of stealing from each other, but this is pathetic.

That shit is hardcore son
^^^^^^^
that has got to be one of the funnest shit's i've read in awhile. But i can see what your talkin about. Alot of cat's like to jump in the game when it's popular and think "well if it raps then i know it will be good" The cat's around my area are the same way....same recycled shit over and over .... Thats why i stepped away from alot of crews because they talked about shit that wasn't true. For instance here is a song that one of these cat's think is a hit "i'm bout my money what the fuck" the chorus read's "I don't give a fuck i'm bout my money what the fuck if i don't get it i'm gonna tear this fucka up" the funny thing is these cats think it's a hit ...the other ones are about on the same lines just ya know more talk about rims, chains, girls, guns, drugs . (shit they don't have but still talk about it) I feel that i'm different from most emcee's...the reason is i talk about truth and how i raise about this material world. Any true hit hopper feels artist like talib, mos def, roots etc because they speak the truth and try to educate the younger cats and tell them that just because everyone else does shit doesn't make it right and doesn't mean you have to do the same thing. there are so many others to relate to also those ^^^^^ are just a few of my favorites Pipeline: listen to a few of my newer tracks and tell me what you think.... www.nowhereradio.com/killakev/singles my newest one's are "life's changed" and "two verses changed flow" the other ones are freestyles and stuff like that. But just know that i feel what your saying and respect your opinion Peace Love Respect Ya Boy Kevlar

I liked the message and music of "life's changed" but for me that one had too much rapping about rapping for me.
"two verses changed flow" MUCH different story! A few on this board chat with me on MSN chat late nights. They see what Im doing, I usually when I KNOW a band has paid all they can, and still they are short, I work on my own time, for free on a LOT of stuff. If the rap coming in here was like THAT song, thats what I would be doing. Instead, I try to get the karaoke rappers in here out the door as fast as possible. Its a sad state that I have and will driven myself into the poorhouse working on a LOT of free stuff, yet I wont EVER EVER spend an extra second on these karaoke rappers, and I sure as hell wish that would change.

Well i'm sorry to hear that you help those cat's out in any way shape or form. I think the term "karaoke rappers" is a new one for me but i think it suites them very well. I feel i'm like you in a lot of ways...i helped out alot of people over the years but only a few understood what the hell i was getting at. You will get payed off for it all one day. I have my guard up now when it comes to most cats because i got screwed over everytime i opened up or offered my opinion on there songs. Ego's are sometimes the hardest thing to over come. Instead of getting pissed off by suggestions that people gave me i listened and worked hard and
now i'm on the right track. See that "two verses changed flow" is my latest partial track. NOw instead of saying "whatever" when someone who knows cretiques me i listen take it all in and i feel that i'm on my way to becoming a good musician. For me i'm not out for the big pay off or big deal but if it comes and the terms are right of coarse i'm not gonna say i would turn it down. What i'm getting at is i have never listened to your work but i know just from your post's that you know what your talking about and just know that it doesn't go unnoticed. Eventully you will get a cat in your studio that you help and he will make it big and repay you ...not with money but by saying "thanks" most cat's don't appreciate anything. Even when they say "i came from nothing" I found out when i gave so much: money, time, advise . That people really want you to fall down so they have something to talk about. But when your hand is out they are you "best friend" So keep up with your work and just know that there are cat's like me out there who care about music and see what your saying to be true. Peace Love Respect Ya Boy Kevlar
