Mic, mixer, pre-amp

I have a Tascam 414, and an ART Tube MP, and was thinking of adding a mixer. The mic will be mostly used for vocals, but some acoustic guitar. Will the mixer make much of a difference, or will it over-process the sound? Any other suggestions will be appreciated.

Adding a mixer will help you if you either a) want more routing options for using external effects or multiple peices of gear without plugging/unplugging. Or b) you are unhappy with the mic preamp you have now and are looking for a different sound. Try your setup as it is now. A good set of monitors or another microphone will probably help your sound quality more than any of the inexpensive mixers on the market.
