How to get songs from MD8 to computer

Could anybody tell me how I would get my songs, I have recorded with my Yamaha MD8,(minidisc) on to my PC?

Once I have the songs on my PC, is there any shareware(free) that would allow me to mix, and master them and ultimately burn them off on CD?

I realize this is probably a broad question, but I am a rookie and am looking to start with something pretty basic.

If your using a standard card like a soundblaster, you will have to use analog outs on recorder to the line in on card. I would recommend the audiophile 2496 card to take advantage of the digital ins.
You can download something like {protools free} to do your editing and mixdown for CD.

Yo Roch:

The MD8 does not have a digital out. It has stereo RCA analog outs.

I used to run those outs direct to tape when I used the MD8. The results were pretty good.

So, if I remember the unit and it sits in my studio yet, you can do all of your mixing, reverb, EQ, etc., and run that via the stereo outs into your PC.

Now, if you want to run your recorded tracks, as is, into a PC and then do mixing, I'm not sure on that one since I don't use a PC set up in my studio -- I use the 2816.

I just took a peek at my MD8, back of it, and there are 8 RCA outs for your tracks. So, I'm not sure how you would run all 8 tracks into a PC but I guess it can be done somehow.

Good luck,

Green Hornet

Hey Roch

I also use a MD8. I mix and master right on the MD8 with the help of an Alesis midi verb effects unit, then burn using the analog outs to a Phillips CD player/burner. It was way cheaper for me to go that route than into my computer. The CD's turn out killer! If you need help let me know.

Yo Nick:

I had about the same set-up and it worked fine.

Good advice.

Thanks for the info.

When I get to that point, I will probably come skulking around for for assistance. I was hoping to use the CD burner via my PC.

Its a slow proccess. In my case, anyway.
