Dr Dre, Timberland, Neptunes, etc.......

I know similar threads have been posted regarding this issue, but do anyone know how the above mentioned producers get down (in regards to their technique/equipment)?
Is dre , Tim, Jermaine dupri etc... nice on the keys or do they use other players to perform and just grab most of the royalties....
In my opinion, dre is one of the illest, he just got that ear for what will pop off. Without dre, 5o cent is nice, with dre 50 is Platinum plus..Ya heard!!!

Dr Dre- yes dre does have a good hear for quality sound and songs and he is a good producer, he knows how to make a song and i think he has some piano playing skills as well


Jermaine Dupri aka REMIX KING- i dont think he has any musical ability at all...


Neptunes-They DO have musical ability (drums,guitar,paino), but i dont think they use there ability to the fullest, always using the same guitar riff and synth sounds is weak

if you listen to there album (in search of) its more musical than the production they do for mainstream artist

he has produced some dope songs.. whether he's jacking beats or replaying stuff and putting a new twist on it, or hiring session players... he got his share of material.

Don't worry 'bout what they're usin' or tryin' to do, just work on your own sh#t,network,listen and learn and your jointz could be just as phat or better than what they're doin'!

Don't get me wrong as Im not hatin' on ANY of the aforementioned and I do recognize their extreme talents in producing,recording and performing, but I've seen WAYYYYY too many threads in this forum about their gear used, who's the best
lyrically, who p'duces the phattest beatz and so on and so on while at the same time I've audienced a lot of jammies here created by participants of this forum and have been AMAZED by the talent and creativity of members here that are on par, and in some cases BETTER than what the Prime Playa's got out rite now!
(our own SPIN-MASTER-WUN got a boy out there now who'z flow and flavor is outta' control!!!!!!!!)
Son, just focus on your own game, strive for originality (while keeping in the back of your mind that your joint should have a hint of commercial marketibility for REALITY PURPOSES),incorporating all aspects to get your name out by either underground,street, the WWW, your boy who works as
security guard at DefJam, your cuzzin's baby's daddy nephew who know's JZ, or even the store where FunkMstr Flex buys his newborn's pampers; whatever it takes!
Yeah man, sit back and enjoy the hitz p'duced by Dr Dre, .50,Em,Jaheim,Ja,Missy,Fab,Pharrell and Hugo and the like

Dre does all his own music... uses triton and mpc alot. Neptunes use ALOT of live samples of drum kits, triton and motifs. Don't have a CLUE what Tim uses, but I DO HEAR some triton. Jermaine has a Triton rack I know for a fact and he is a mixer/sampler guy. Dre uses little or no samples. (Like ME) and keeps it REALLY simple, usually less than 10 tracks. 50 cent In the Club uses AT least 3 triton sounds.. the india hit drum, the pizzacato strings (those are the main riff you hear in the song) some legato strings. I know this just by hearing it. Eminem, Real Slim Shady is almost 100% triton. I read that. Basically 95% of ALL non sampled tracks will have a triton, which I do 100% of ALL MY TRACKS ON.. they will also have a motif and MPC in 75%.... in EVERYTHING there is a triton SOMEWHERE as well as a pro tools session.


Triton is a staple instrument.... Motif is not as good as the triton, but DAMN CLOSE. Check out some of my stuff at

Motif for me.... Tritons get used for doorstops over Here... LoL

Not really... The Motif just seems like a break from the norm.... In two years Im going to swoop something else newer,,,, These sounds get played so fast you have to be on top of your game..... Good Equipment lasts but never put all your chips in one unit... Blending is the best way to mask what you played something on.

neither is "better"... different machines... I've never used a Triton, but when I'm ready to drop 2G's and change on my next keyboard, right now I'm set on the Motif 8... sounds are incredible and the keys feel great.

Dre doesn't actually compose a lot of the songs he's produced, he's more of a producer in the classical sense of the word, telling his musicians what to play and where....

and where'd you get those %'s from? The Triton is popular but I doubt its present in 95% of non-sampled songs out there now... there are other modules out there- Emu's sounds are pretty heavily used now, Roland always has sounds being used... and there's live instrumenation, especially guitars and basses, as well as analog synths.

Thanks for your responses, that is the type of dialogue I was looking for when I started this thread. MISTERQCUE took it all wrong!!!!I'm not trying to duplicate anything that is out there, I just had a curiousity of what is being used in todays R&B/HipHop by some of the hottest producers out there now. I'm in the midst of searching and finding what I need, to do what I want. The best way is to ask questions...So again, BIGGG UPPP to you all who are willing to share what you know: Share knowledge / Get Knowledge.... Ya heard!

Nearly all songs have triton in them... I read that 95% from some producers article... BT I think It was... Not necessarily many sounds, but it is like pro tools.. SOMEWHERE in the chain of a hundred equipment pieces used in major release production (pop and r&b and hip hop, not rock I imagine) THERE IS A TRITON SOUND THERE.
