I second the C1.

I 3rd the C1, if it fits your intended use. Great on vocals, but also useful in other areas (try search). I believe one reviewer said it was the best mic he had found for snare!!
Acouple of B1's may also be worth it instead?

in that case it looks like i'm getting used to this recording stuff - i put a hold on a C1 before i even made this post at a local music store! haha....
anyhow, I've been TRYING to search for it on the board, but i cant! it is less then 3 letters and the search won't do it! haha. if anyone has any diret post links, that would rule. Anyway, sounds/looks good. i think that WILL be my next purchace.

Try searching simply for Studio Projects and see what comes up (if you haven't already).
What is the mic going to be used for? I have a C1, which I use for vocals mainly, but have also used it on bongos and darbuka (at the bass end), and works well enough. I think it is aldo pretty good on flutes and similar wind instruments. The B1 (B3) is more neutral, but needs more gain.

I would save up another c-note and get a C3. Those multi patterns will come in handy. That's what I'm doing anyway.

I'd upgrade your kick drum mic first.

Considering the dynamics that you have, I don't think that you could go wrong with a used Sennheiser MD-421 from ebay (usually about $200, sometimes less).
But if you're more interested in a nice condenser mic, than the C1 recommendation is probably pretty safe, if you're buying without trying. Otherwise, the recommendation is "whatever sounds the best for your voice"... -mg |

This is more of a "transfer" than "buy" change.
You may want to consider selling one of your SM58's and replace it with a Electro-Voice EV 635a omni dynamic. If you need two live performance mikes, you can always put Shure's windscreen (est.$10) on your SM57 (sounds clearer than SM58 that way). Or you could use the extra $$ from selling the SM58 towards either a C3 and/or a B3 multi-pattern. Chris |

Just wanted to add that due to the styles you're involved with,
you may prefer the C series as they have more "edge". (meant in a positive sense! )Chris |

I have heard the C1 recommended many times, and am considering it myself (vs the Rode NTK vs. the GT57) to complement my mic cabinet.
I've heard it gives somewhat of a 'high end sheen' to the sound source, although nothing like (for instance) the AKG C3000B... So many mics, so little $$$.... Tom

If you spend the money on an NTK, you'll never regret it.
