Cwpap & Xp
Ok...probably a stupid question, but cwpa9 is ok to run with Windows XP isn't it? I would assume so.
Also, since I'm building a new system, is it worth the $143 and the raking from my wife to get XP Pro (oem) rather than install my oem version of win98se on the new machine? I'll be ready for a Sonar upgrade then (won't be able to slide that one through for quite some time - this emergency computer build is sapping the resources )Thanks much ![]() |

Ok, just did a little research.
Cakewalk claims that PA9 doesen't support WinXP, but I know that many users around here uses PA9 and XP. So the definite answer would be: "Yes it should work, but it might not".

Jag - it's gonna be hit or miss, like moskus said. Cakewalk claims PA9 is not supported under XP. However, I have seen posts of people who are running it fine under XP.
I've also seen posts from people who can't get it to run under XP. And, of course, for those people Cakewalk's answer is, "it's not supported under XP." |

OOOO....now that makes life interesting. So now my choices are:
1) Stick with Win98se on the new machine (for now) save up $300 and upgrade to XP & Sonar simultaneously. (safe) 2) Forge ahead with XP and see if CWPA9 works. If not, whine incessantly to my wife about how I can't record so I can purchase Sonar as well. (risky) FFS I just bought the damn program like a little over 3 years ago (hidden costs of using your compter for recording I guess). |

Jagular,
At the beginning of the year I had my heart set on a Roland VS-2480CDR. $10 000 AUD... I started to look at alternatives.. Sonar came up ($1 000) I also got my Edirol DA-2496 that day ($1 800) and a new Rode NT-2 ($600). So I bought $2 400 worth of gear... now in a couple of years time I'll get another Edirol (16 inputs total).. then a new PC etc... eventually it will probably cost $20 000. When you spread the cost over 5-10 years it doesn't sound soo bad... I'd choose to get XP, chance to see if it works... if it doesn't, make the computer into a dual boot system, use CW9 on Windows98 and day to day stuff on XP... then down the track upgrade to Sonar... sorry moskus. nice thinking. Never done a dual boot machine before, but I'm sure I can figure it out when the time comes (like I have with everything else - *looks & sees computer parts strewn around the room* )Thanks |

Heh... the reason I started looking at things that way is because I got married last November.... I guess we are now even because the misses has set up a business and about $2000 has been invested in that in the last month or so.

I put up a fairly large post here a few months ago about trying to get CW9 to run under Win XP Pro, with an Audiophile 2496 card. Search it down, there was quite a bit of info in it. The short answer is that the Audiophile would only work as a 16 bit recording device in CW9, while it was fully functional in 24 and 16 bit modes in Sonar 2.0 This is because Cakewalk doesn't know what WDM drivers are, and this is the type of driver that XP - and apparently the Audiophile running under XP - expects you to use. This is why Cakewalk is listed as "unsupported". So yes it WILL install and run, but it will not work properly, at least not with a 2496 card.

![]() I guess that's better anyway. That dual boot nonsense kind of had me scared. ![]() |
