Question about Alesis 12r and Yamaha Powered Sub?

Hey,
I would really like to get a Yamaha Powered Sub (YST-SW005 or YST-SW105) but I am not sure how I would hook it up to my current setup because of the sub's output connections. Both of these subwoofers only have speaker terminal inputs and outputs. Please correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't the sub's speaker outs have an amplifier hooked to them to power other speakers? Right now I have M-Audio SP-5B Monitors so I can't have any power ran to them or they would blowup. Anyway, I was wondering if I can't use the sub outs then could I hook it up using the MONITOR Outs of my Alesis 12r? I think that would work, but I don't want to purchase one and then not be able to use it. Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

Henry

Hi.

I wrote to Yamaha's tech support about the same question regarding the YST-SW205 powered subs they make. Here's their response:

"In order for audio signal to output from the speaker out on the subwoofer, there must be a speaker level IN feed. Also the signal are not amplified by the subwoofer's amplifier. The speaker terminals are used as a passthrough.

Best regards,
Charles"

That's all they sent me as a reply, even though I asked *specifically* how to connect my powered nearfield monitors.
