Question Need Help With Mixer Connections

I don't mean to offend anyone but I just purchased a Behringer UB2442FX-Pro mixer and I need help with understanding and using INSERTS, AUX Sends, Returns functions. The manual is sketchy at best. What are SUBS and how are they used?

Yes, a Mackie would have been better but my budget (and MY WIFE) would not permit me to get one .

The unit has INS and DIRECT outs on all mono channels.

I don't mean to make some of the experts repeat themselves. I know that I can get general info from other posts.

I'm just hoping I can get more specific information. It's a newbie thing I guess.

Please help if you can.

Any tutorials out there?

I've probably answered this particular question 50 to 60 times. Try a search my friend and all will be revealed.

a Direct Out is just what it sounds like .... it gives you the signal immediately after the preamp, so it's not affected by the faders, EQ, etc. good for sending to a multitrack recorder.

an insert is like a direct out and a return all in one. it uses a TRS plug, but instead of one balanced or stereo channel, it is a send/receive. so, for example, you could put a compressor on a channel by hooking it up to the Insert.
