Here are photos of my nearly finished studio (that's right, acoustic treatments are not yet in place)....
This shot included a Super Reverb, a Carvin X-amp, a Silvertone Twin Twelve, Dobro D-60, Carvin L-2o, and my new rice paper screen. |

And then there's the workstation area, with a Tascam TM-D1000 to the right, racked with a Behringer Ultra-Curve, an ART D/IO preamp and a Carvin power amp. Speakers are Carvin, with a sub under the desk. The wicker shelf holds a Tascam IF-TAD to convert TDIF1 to ADAT, a Lucid word clock distributor and a Tascam SCSI CD burner.

And the far corner, showing my collection of vintage mic cables, a MusicMan amp, a painting, and et cetera.

Further along, my namesake guitar, the other half of the MusicMan, a wicker credenza for all the loose blank CDRs etc, and a bottle of Jose Cuervo anejo.

And at last, the front door, opposite the natural finished wall. To the left is a rack with headphones, a headphone amp, a Tascam 103 cassette deck, and a stereo setup for playing back mixes (you already saw the speakers on stands that are hooked up to this).

That you very much, sir. So how's Austin? -- I lived there in the '70's but now live in Nac-a-Nowhere, 240 miles E.

Austin's great!
Great nightlife. Live music 7 nights a week. 6th Street still rocks! SXSW is always fun. We still have Eyore's birthday party every year at pease park. No more Aqua-fest. That was just an idea whose time had come and gone. The hills out west are pretty much fully developed with high end housing. We got a new airport a few years ago. Actually we took over Bergstram AFB after it closed down. Austin and Round Rock city limits pretty much run together now. The city extends out to 620 on the west, out by the lake. Bee Cave road is now a 5 lane highway from MoPac all the way out to 620. MoPac extends as far south as Slaughter Lane now. The "Y" in Oak Hill (where I live) is fixin' to be a fly-over. It's grown up a lot. The metro area is around 650,000 people now. Traffic can suck at times, but, hey, that's life in the big city!

Actually, I'm in Austin from time to time...my oldest son works at TI and my stepdaughter lives up off St John's. I knew about the AquaFest: I ran a Honda 350cc roadracer* in it in '71, when I was a graduate student in the English dept at UT. Went to see Eeyore that year, too, and saw my very first Pignose amp. Ah, those were the days....Starting in the middle of May I'll be retired (the reason I'm redoing the studio) and will probably be down there more often.
Right now I'm researching acoustics. I mostly record acoustic instruments and vocals (my days as a rock idol seem to have evaporated, somehow) and I must say I've found some really useful links here. regards John _________ * not, I hasten to add, a CB350: it was a CB77 highly modified and punched out: attached is a photo that appeared in an August 1971 issue of the American Statesman to advertise the race. |
